I will be getting one, one day when they come available. My plan is to get the MSI GTX 1070 Aero, because I have a tiny case and want to stick with the blower-type cooler, but do not want a FE card. I'll update this thread when (if) I ever find one.

*edit* Of course, the AMD offering has the potential to change this. Supposedly the 480 will perform at around GTX 980 levels for $229 (8GB version). If that ends up true, all bets are off, especially since my wife doles out my punishment based on a sliding scale of "how many dollars did jackass spend on himself instead of me".

I would go for the 1070, as it uses newer architecture etc etc.

Personally, I'm looking to save up for a possible 1080 Ti. Although I may just wait for the ... 1180 Ti? O_o

If VR isn't a big deal most of the new architecture gains are practically nonexistent to the actual consumer if we're talking performance between a 980ti or a 1070. Most benchmarks I've seen generally show a 1070 being within single digit fps of a 980ti, so if those few extra frames aren't a deal breaker you can get a pretty decent price cut.

DX12 performance is still comparatively shit, and we don't traditionally see large gains in performance later down the line as drivers get refined.

The above is why I ultimately won't buy anything until AMD's offerings are released. I want to see what will be the best value for the best 4k performance. If the 1080 is close enough to AMD but only slightly more I'll go with it for the single gpu solution. If 980ti's hit $200 I'll probably go sli or even...??!!

My brother is doing just that. All I need is the 1070 but he's waiting for the inevitable Ti.

He's not wrong, but I don't know if I want to deal with that much heat in my rig having two of those monsters slapped together.

Yeah honestly the only game he listed that's actually demanding is RotTR. Outside of some dumb settings that do almost nothing visually Doom is pretty easy on the GPU, and like all Blizzards games a potato can comfortably run Overwatch.

I've come up with a simple equation for most of my friends.

1070: you have or will have a <$700 monitor.

1080: you have or will have a ~$800+ monitor.

It's flawed but puts things into perspective to them. Amd has so much hate I wish I could point people in that direction easier.
