Card arrived yesterday and I installed it last night.
I chose the 1070 card I got because I wanted a blower-style cooler without going with a FE card. My case is small so I want the heat exhausted out the back, rather than left in the case. I was concerned about the noise from the fan, but until about 70% fan speed, it's quieter than my case fans. Even at 100% fan speed, the noise isn't that bad. I decided on keeping it at 80% max under load. This keeps the GPU temp around 72-74C under load.
I played The Division for like 4 hours last night. I used to think my 970 was good enough for this game at 1440p. But then I started playing with rogue groups and my FPS would drop heavily in big pvp fights, so I dropped all settings to Medium. This provided enough frames and the game still looked good so w/e. Well, the 1070 has made Ultra settings liquid-smooth at 1440p. I don't want to commit to a before-and-after number, but it feels like my FPS easily doubled.
So, after one day of use, I'm really happy with the purchase so far. I'll be replaying DA3 and Witcher 3 at some point, due to the increased performance. Now, I just need to figure out how I'm gonna get out of the wife's doghouse!
