I guess since the memory on the 8GB cards is clocked slightly higher it's a binning thing? Though that doesn't explain why the fuck they would ship them with all 8 GB of memory.

Edit : read more, it apparently only applies to the earliest runs of the 480, which was the versions sent out to reviewers. Why they sold some of those as 4 GB models when they have 8 GB on the board makes no sense, but w/e

I'm not sure how the flash procedure works for video cards, but if you took a backup of the original BIOS, then flashed using the "8GB" BIOS, you should be able to re-flash to the original if it fucks up. Again though, I don't know how it's done.

The below video did nothing to sway me into buying a new card, which is disappointing. While it's only one set of benchmarks, seeing a 980ti hang with a 1070 in 4k is disappointing. With seeing a few 980ti's around $250 I'm leaning to that direction.

Really, there's no reason to consider SLI unless:

1) You're going whole-hog with the best cards you can buy (right now, 1080's), or
2) You've had your existing card for a while and want to pair it up with another one as opposed to buying a new single card.

Kal, stop overthinking it. If you want to drive a 4k display, get a 1080 (or two). If you want to go the cheaper route, get a pair of 980ti's.

Well, their reference cards will be $299, so no, it won't deliver 980 performance for $249. Yes, I know, the AIB cards MSRP at $249, but we've yet to see any 1070's or 1080's being sold at AIB MSRP.
