Mostly cause I like the features, but I found an EVGA FTW for $450 so I got that, should be here by Wed., then I can try to sell these 780s for cheap. Prolly gonna start em at $175/ea ($300 for set) and move from there, think that's reasonable?

that's the one I ordered btw, didn't know EVGA used all the same features that are on Strix branded GPUs. So I'm pretty happy with that considering EVGA is the best in terms of warranty and upgrade paths. Can do step up to a 1080ti later on if I want to.

Came in around 1000 points higher than my 2x780 setup. Mainly did it for stability and driver conflict reasons but the performance increase is welcome.

I kind of regret not ordering my 1080 earlier after getting the 'ok' from the wife, but I'm holding out on the Strix anyway. Need to figure out the best way to pay for this shit anyway lol.

I really like that the Strix has extra case fan headers on the card that only run when the card tells them to. That's a pretty nice feature for people who want their PC's quiet while not gaming.

Been keeping my eye on the Zotac GTX 1080 Amp Extreme. I am tempted to say fuck it and buy it from Amazon, but I know if I do some other site will magically have it in stock suddenly for $100 less.

Said fuck it and ordered the STRIX 1080. Should be a pretty big improvement over my single 970.

Does anyone have an opinion of which manufacturer to buy from for a 1080 GTX? I was debating between MSI and EVGA but I'm not able to discern a better choice between the two. EVGA has a higher base clock w/ a blower for heat dissipation but the MSI OC's higher and has a better cooling system though it dumps in to the case. Thoughts anyone?

I've had no issues with my EVGA cards (460, 550Ti, 750Ti). Had issues with them due to external stuff but the cards themselves are top tier.

Blower models are generally louder (giggity)

MSI and EVGA both have solid warranty AFAIK, so either choice is fine

In the end, your choice of brand is really just for warranty and customer service, imo

Cards usually last long enough for their usable life, but on the odd case they don't, you want a warranty to function as an insurance.

PNY failed me on this w/ my 560, but haven't had a card fail otherwise.

I'm a pretty big fan of EVGA. You don't want to plan on your shit breaking, but if it does EVGA is top tier in customer support.

I'll second the EVGA vote. Heard a LOT of good customer service reviews on them.

I'll third it. Lost the back plate on my old motherboard when I sold it, they quickly sent me a new one free of charge to mail to the person on BG who bought my old parted out system.

had evga 560/770, 960, and now 1070. The only reason why my 560 and 960 died was because of powersupply issues provided by corsair, highly recommend. They upgraded my 560 to a 770 and 960 from 2gb to 4gb model when I had issues due to powersupply killing them. 10/10

Msi and Asus strix are the best models.

I generally agree that Asus has the best models of GPUs and mobos (from my personal experience), but to me it's just not worth the risk if something goes wrong. Cutting off your dick with a rusty butter knife is less painful then dealing with Asus customer support.

He doesn't seem to be looking at customer service as part of his decision, just clocks and temps.

Msi and strix are the two best if I recall.
