Yeow. I didn't realize it went this fast. What's a good replacement hdd for a PS4?

So okay. I just noticed I'm using half the drive already (5 games, a few apps) on my PS4. (500 gigs is not much)

This is a little worrisome, so I think it's time to think about saving for a bigger hdd and a backup drive so I don't lose the first XV demo and also, the updated version of The Witcher I have.. Any suggestions? I mean to just find a tera or so external for backup soon as I see a good deal so I can just back up my stuff and full restore (Did a google and it has to be FAT32, so there is a limit to how big for backups. Also I'd rather keep PS4 and my computer separate, backup wise.)

Not quite directly related, but Eurogame put out an excellent article on performance of different drive types when Bloodborne came out:

You could use a full-on SSD, but the gains are negligible.

There is a company that sells a full size 3.5" hd piggyback case that goes where the normal hd sits on amazon. Be warned though, it appears that the ps4 has issues with some hds (more common over 1tb I read) where you can't use rest mode. I have a (hitachi I think) 3tb drive hooked up to my ps4 and it definitely does not like rest mode. But on the plus side I never concern myself with file sizes on games.

Interested in this topic, but just in case, would the PS4 Neo make that bloodbourne test result irrelevant? (thanks for that post Stromgarde; I was looking for a simple article with some sort of table of different types of HD tests)

    You mean this?

Opening and replacing the HDD is easy, if you're interested in putting in a larger data volume disk.
That said, 2.5" drives only have up to 2TB? I think? Don't quote me on this.

And I don't think there's a definitive source with enough information on the PS4.5 to distinguish variance in HDD's.

That's interesting guys. Me, I prolly won't get the neo unless my TV breaks. especially since it has no exclusive games and the games made for VR don't interest me. (It is NOT a 4k tv and I tend to be more frugal than anything. If what I got still works...Also I'm a RPG fan, not a sports game nut or...).

Anyway was thinking about breaking apart and using this: Seagate HDD, a lot of people swear by it and hopefully it'll keep me going for a long long time.

And yeah, if I want a SSD I'll get it for my pc, not for my PS4. ^^

For that price, I'd look at this:

Edit: That's 3.5 inches, which is too big. This one is 2.5 inches, but not quite as much storage:

Storm; thanks for pointing out one for both my systems that use a HDD. (Been thinking about going for a 2 tera on my pc too soonish; I swear, data is like coathangers; it multiplies.)

Tho yeah, that usb one can actually be pried apart (There's tutorials online) and used in your PS4 with no problems; some people used it when PT was available, backing their stuff up as well. I'm not so bad b/c I <3 physical media whereever possible for my systems, so I'll still do a full system backup b/c of the demos but I'm not as bad as some.
