everything through U was a breeze, U+ is horrible on the other hand. 0 synergy, and my 65+ spellblade selection is quite weak outside of steiner so i'm relegated to taking tyro.

after a ridiculous number of retries i managed to clear it, but lost 4 medals due to 3 people being dead at the end. if i could've finished it one round faster i would've hit mastery, oh well.

I got both on first try with zero FF3 synergy, losing no medals on U and 3 medals on U+ (1 action + 2 damage).

Definitely bring banishing strike for U, and spam it to keep pro/haste off and cause him to waste turns to recast it instead of nuking your party. Don't make the mistake I did on U+ and bring Agrias with Saint Cross + Shellga as Bahamut resists holy, which resulted in her contributing very little damage to the fight.

Bahamut uses his third megaflare (which causes a target score failure) on his 5th turn after casting his second megaflare during his transition to his final phase at 30%, so you'll need to be able to burst about 110k damage after you see the second megaflare to win in time.

If you happen to have a native runic, I'd imagine it would shine for both fights. If you have one of Celes's runics and can wait a few days for the free tornado strike, being able to spam tornado strike during the weak phases of U+ seems like it would make the fight a lot easier, negating one of its most dangerous moves (flare) and keeping tornado strike charged up.

yeah, my first attempt at U+ was with basch and the only strong damage skills i have that are usable for him are banishing strike and saint's cross. even with various combinations of shout/apoc/shield bonus/fullbreak/armor break/banishing blade stacked, the damage on either was pitiful.

U: Reflected leviathan, mitigated magic with protectga, obliterated thunder weakness.
U+: Had to hone wind jump to R4 which was about a hone too much, and took aerora strike to R5 but could have gotten away with much less. I have zero physical III synergy so my DPS was too low without two wind sources. Lost two damage and one action - he spits out lots of AOE and his flare/physical ST are pretty strong as well.

Used dreamforge rw. If you have magic blink and time it right mega flare won't even hit you

1/1'd both, Cele's 3-hit Wind SB was MVP for me on Bahamut.

Made 3 Aero Strikes, putting them on Celes, Agrias, and Bartz. Those three then got Armor Break, Shellga, and Power Steal respectively. Battleforged, Knight's Charge, and Dragoon's Determination for RM. Put my IV twin for healer with Curaja/Protecta and her SSB heal and Tyro for SG with MB/FB. Both had the 1 SB bar RM.

Mega Flare didn't seem too bad. Personally took more damage from his stock AoE. Used 3 syncs during the fight to heal because of it. Anyway, Celes was doing about 30k per SB while Bartz maybe did 23kish with Trueblade and (de)buffs up. Agrias was kinda the dead weight, but hey, more Aero.

The reflect is a nice idea as long as you s/l until you can stick it before he buffs, though i'd still carry the dispel to make it easier to reapply mid-fight without the worry of him sneaking a buff in before recast that you can't get rid of, or having to reflect one of your own party members to bounce another reflect off of to recast it (thus making that person unable to receive single target healing) before the first one wears to deny him the chance of getting a buff in mid-fight.

It turns out the hit and run trick of fleeing and reentering repeatedly mentioned in the FF4 thread to fill SB gauges cheaply does in fact work here with a couple of tweaks to it, due to a combination of this boss's relatively low SPD stat for a U+ fight, and its opening hit always being a single target attack.

The basic rundown for it for this boss would be:
    1) Set everyone to back row, equip your healer with concentration II or Moon's Grace II RM.
    2) Enter fight, everyone except your healer queues a standard attack, healer casts curaja on whoever gets hit by the opening attack.
    3) Once everyone completes a turn in the above fashion, flee from the fight. If you are too slow on the retreat and a second person gets hit, s/l
    4) Repeat steps 2 and 3 until everyone's SB bars are filled, which should cost around 30 stam.
    5) When ready to do the fight for real, go to the camp menu and move your melees to the front row as needed, then attempt the fight.

The drawback to this method is your healer has to sacrifice their RM slot on something that won't be of actual use during the real attempt, but I would say starting off with full SB without a mythril revive is well worth it.

Yeah, that hit and run trick definitely gave me the push I needed for mastery. Heh...

Did Leviathan earlier and he was a joke, still waiting on Bahamut but I'm considering Kimahri for his Mighty Guard and Wind Jump.... yeah I'm crazy XD

Nah, I might also throw Kimahri in there if this next one doesn't work. Magic Blink + Celes is probably going to win this fight for me. Plus I can leave Kim in the back row and have him spam Wind Jump + LS to keep up.

Well.. Leviathan was quite possibly the easiest U I've ever seen lol. I mean I'm pretty sure Garuda was harder and I one shot that...

Yeah, Levi wasn't too bad since they seemingly removed his enpetrify that the dungeon version had. I went the reflect route, myself.

I am just having issues finding the motivation with this fight. It seems you literally have to have an aoe cure ready to go the second megaflare hits otherwise you are dead. Is he by any chance susceptible to slow?

I could have bought an 11 pull and have 1000 gems left over, but all I got was this silly title.

I'm going off the deep end and bringing 2 white mages. RW Squall BSSB and spam the wind ele attack after FB + Shout. Staying alive is the hard part since Cid and Celes can dish out the damage well enough for me. Tried to half-white mage it with P. Cecil back row with bow but that didn't work. Just the damage was really high in phase 2.

    Edit: hahaha haha

No weaknesses other than Wind, but if you stack magic breakdown, full break, shellga, and magic shield megaflare does next to nothing.

I don't remember using Yshtola's Medica at all. Damage is easily mitigated down to where regen negates it with Magic BD + Shell + Protect before Megaflare goes off that you can literally save wall use for when its about to go off.
