'Birds of Prey' Misfires With $33.7 Million Debut, DC's Worst Opening in a Decade
    https://www.msn.com/en-us/movies/new...id=mailsignout

I don't follow DC movies much but I found it hard to believe this was the worst opening in that long. Sadface.

Just got done seeing it. Nothing groundbreaking or awe inspiring, but it was a fun action movie. Ewan McGregor was amazing as Black Mask.

My theater could barely fill a row, but that was 11am on a Sunday. Liked the movie well enough. Margot Robbie does a good job as Harley Quinn.

This was my thought. I fully enjoyed watching it from start to finish even if it didn't try anything new. It was just a fun movie.

So how long until they blame men for hating feminism for the reason why this had such a shit box-office?

Would be completely stupid and showed they didn't see the movie if they pulled that. The closest would be one characters arc, and in the movie it makes sense and wasnt shoe horned in for rah rah girl power.

Oh don't worry some sites already are. Comic book resources for one already has a post up about it failing because of men and a primarily female cast

After Birds of Prey came out in theaters, some movie goers posted pictures of empty movie theaters claiming no one was seeing the movie. While it’s true that Birds of Prey under-performed in theaters despite strong reviews, fans of Birds of Prey pointed out that the tweets seem like a targeted attempt to prove the movie is unsuccessful.

“Honest question: anyone going to into literally any male-led movie and taking pictures of the empty theaters to ‘prove’ that it’s a flop?? Bc I’ve only seen people do it for Captain Marvel & Birds of Prey,” a Twitter user wrote.

“the way people celebrate that birds of prey had a low opening is sickening, cathy yan and the cast really put care into this movie and have never once said ‘this movie is only for women, men bad’ anyways i hope the crew knows that many of us loved the movie and want to see more,” one fan tweeted.

“You know why #BirdsOfPrey is going to bomb just like #CharliesAngels did? They’ve removed any sex appeal these characters had to appeal to a female ‘girl power’ audience instead of the core male comic book audience. They literally don’t know who they’re making this movie for,” a Twitter user wrote.

“That’s what happens when you have Margot Robbie and the feminist director wanting to stop the ‘male gaze,'” another one wrote on Twitter.

One person upset with movie’s premise wrote an op-ed titled “DC’s ‘Birds of Prey’ hates men, but wants their money – no wonder it’s bombing at the box office.”

“… the women in it are smarter, tougher and stronger than the men, except they have been stripped of their sex appeal in a convoluted attempt to be pro-feminist,” reads the op-ed. “If equality is women making misandrist, hyper-violent, incoherently vapid and dreadful movies, then ‘Birds of Prey‘ is a smashing success for feminism. It is also an abysmal failure for cinema… and probably humanity. It deserves to fail.”

For me honestly, I am still going to watch the movie at some point, but the one trailer I kept seeing on TV didn't seem to make the movie that interesting and so I can see how people weren't drawn to this film.

It was more the marketing... actually seeing some talk about how some people actually made it wasn't as much as it was marketed lol.

Critics and cast members. Shit, Obi literally came out saying it was about women empowerment and eradicating misogyny/patriarchy. OK Computer. Anyway, it wasn't a horrible weekend, Joaquin took the Oscar lol.

Except there wasn't any of that in the actual movie, which was my point. Saying it and having it in there are two completely different things.

Hell, for those who don't want to see the movie for afraid of having their feelings potentially hurt, here are all 4 female lead's motivations. Don't click that spoiler if you don't want major plot points revealed.

    Spoiler: show
No seriously, if you're going to go see the movie, don't click the damn spoiler

    Spoiler: show
Harley Quinn: The criminal underworld tolerated her annoying ass because she was the Joker's girlfriend, and no one, not even Black Mask would risk pissing him off. Once everyone confirmed they broke up, every goon in the city was after her.

Black Canary: She was Black Mask's lounge singer. After Harley broke Mask's driver's legs and he fired him thinking she was with Joker, and witnessing Black Canary kick a couple of random goon's asses who were going to kidnap and kill/rape a completely drunk and barely conscious Harley, made her his personal driver. She sold out Mask when he wanted to kill a kid to recover a diamond she stole.

Huntress: Her family were crime lords. Whole family was killed and she survived, and one of the killers goons smuggled her out, where she trained as an assassin. She was only in town to get revenge on the family that killed her's, and Mask's right hand men was one of those.

Renee Montoya: The one possible feminism trope. A cop who was a great detective, but her black male partner took credit for solving a case they worked on, he got promoted, she got stuck in a dead end job. She ends up quitting the force to form B.O.P. at the end

Having not seen the movie yet is...

    Spoiler: show

it the Joker that breaks up with Quinn or the other way around. If it's Quinn because she's tired of all the shit and their toxic relationship then yeah it can be about female empowerment, but if its seriously just the Joker dumping her and she now has to survive because she no longer has his "protection" then that is a big wtf...because the so called "emancipation of one harley quinn" is initiated by the Joker leaving her when in reality they make it seem like she is the one leaving him.

He dumps her, but it's all off screen. No scenes or conversations at all with the Joker. It spends some time at the beginning while it's setting the plot how she's obsessed and doesn't handle the break up well, with one person in a group setting mentioning that they don't believe the break up is real cause the second he snaps his fingers, she'll come crawling back

I should add, that when drunk, she decides to announce to the world they broke up by stealing a gas truck and crashing it into the chemical plant that she tossed herself into to become Harley Quinn while ripping off her J necklace, but it's also established pretty early that No, she did not handle the break up well at all, and you see her pressed against a window begging for him to take her back

Edited to add a bit more detail in the spoiler.

    Well that's a disappointment.
