TOR should be happy with Andersen; very solid tender who almost took the ANA v NSH series back on his own after we went up 2-0 on the road. Trade cost and AAV are fine; term is a bit ehh given tenders' proclivity for falling off the map (particularly in TOR), but he's like 26 IIRC, so if he's at least average, it will be fine.

Jack Johnson is a Corsi nightmare.

Kopitar's Corsi shoots up 8.7% away from Johnson.
JWill's Corsi goes up 7.2% away from Johnson.
Brown's Corsi goes up 8.3% away from Johnson.
Greene's goes up 8.5
Scuderi up 8.7

etc etc etc

There was not one player on that roster that was better off with Johnson on the ice. Even the Lumbus players saw a Corsi drop when playing with Johnson. Do you know why the Kings got rid of Johnson? They were a team that preached puck possession, and Johnson made everyone worse at it. So it clearly made them better instead of "cripple them". NICE TRY

Kings won in 2012 because Quick was playing out of his mind during the playoffs and allowed for an absurd forecheck. The team was not worried about giving up an odd-man rush because of the confidence everyone had in Quick.

Doughty + Johnson on the same PP pairing before the 'Lumbus trade was terrible. The system had too much depth on defense and a great need of scoring on the wing, hence the trade for Carter and Richards. The trade balanced the D-corps such that each pairing had an offensive man (Doughty, Voynov, and to a lesser extent Martinez) with a shutdown d-man (Scuderi, Mitchell, and Greene.) Johnson was the odd man out. Numbers wise, Johnson was probably better than Martinez at 2012, but why pay him to play 3rd pair minutes. He was an asset that was dished out to fill a need for offense.

2. NHL. All some random Sun Belt expansion team needs to win the Cup is a decent training staff and a red-hot goalie. Also, the NHL is too stupid to rig their sport properly for big market teams and superstar collectives, which is how you end up with Nashville playing San Jose for something important.

The blues shouldnt be in rebuild mode, theyve got a good strong core as is. They should be building around it with veterans to push them over the hump, which is probably why they dont want a 14th overall pick who probably wont be nhl ready for 3-4 more years

To be fair, no one seems to know (or be willing to say) which pick they offered. If it was the 29th it's a lot less surprising.

Also, convenient that the cap goes up by roughly the penalty Chicago has to pay for going over this season.

Edit: They've made no attempt to re-sign Shattenkirk and Paryako has made him somewhat expendable. May as well move him for something while you ca- wait a fucking second I'm not going down this goddamn rabbit hole again.
