These Forsberg, MacKinnon, Scheifele contracts are promising. Still have to sign Johnny and Mony and I'm liking the market hovering around $6mil for players around their age and skill level. Sign em both at $6mil for 6~8 years, still have about $3mil left over in cap space which gets another $3.5mil in space when Smid goes on LTIR and we're golden.

And than next year you got another $8mil off the team when Wideman and Engelland's contracts end, on top of another $4mil for our goalies plus another few mil for all the 1-year year contracts we have and we're golden going into the expansion draft. Really happy with how the team is being managed right nao.

The analytics don’t support the idea that Weber, who turns 31 on Aug. 14, can have the same influence on the game as 27-year-old Subban can.

A source told Sportsnet that Matt Pfeffer, who was hired as an analytics consultant at the beginning of the 2015-16 season, made an impassioned and elaborate presentation to management to dissuade them from following through on this trade.

Ignoring Pfeffer’s advice only served to reinforce the notion that Bergevin was following different criteria in his evaluation of both players, said the source, who also suggested Pfeffer’s vehemence on the matter might have ultimately cost him the job (he was told on Wednesday that his contract won’t be renewed). The Canadiens would not comment on why they aren’t renewing his contract, but they did say that they are looking into other analytics solutions.

So Bergevin refused to renew the analytics guy's contract because he was telling him that trading PK for Weber would be a bad move, if the source is reputable, which it probably is because there are 29 other fan bases who believe that the Habs got fleeced on this trade, as well as the habs fans who dont suck down the RDS kool-aid (Rata is not part of that group).

Also the Blues have reportedly come to a deal with Jaden Schwartz but I don't know the term/money right now. Supposed to be less than $5.5 AAV though which is a sweet deal for the Blues.
