Im pretty sure Murray was going in to 2017 as the starter, or atleast the 1A. It was his spot to lose, and Fleurys spot to win back.

Murray isnt gonna carry the pens through the 2016 playoffs just to immediately go back to their backup for 2017.


If the expansion lottery was this year, the pens would lock Fleury and gamble that Murray didnt just get hot for 2 months at the right time. The lottery is next year, therefor the pens get a full season to see if Murray is the real deal, or if he just got hot.

One good playoff run doesn't overpower a career of being solid in the regular season. I doubt murray is ready to play 50-60 games

Hence why i said evaluate for the season? Theyre gonna have to make a choice this offseason of what goalie to protect at the draft.

Do you protect 32 yr old MAF or 23 yr old Murray? If their plan is to play MAF for 65 games and give murray 17, that would be a pretty stupid way to evaluate him.

They have to protect MAF because of his NTC as far asm I'm aware. So the only way to get out of that is to trade him.
