Let's be real, once KD gets into the habit of running full court fast-breaks and alleyoops, it's going to be fucking Globetrotters all the way up until the Finals. I expect KD to continue getting better on defense, which has been the difference-maker last season. A 2017 with no injuries is a clean sweep in my imagination, which is of course partly due to the hype of it all, but let's not ignore the Pacers' chances of getting to the Finals and just assume Lebron's flaky ass team is a lock for a rematch either.

Zaza has a motor and boards like mad but he is charmin fucking soft contesting at the rim. relying on Durant + Draymond for 100% of your interior defense is a troubling concept. losing Bogut + Ezeli's 37ish minutes of very good to great rim protection ain't nothing, Dubs should drop off some defensively even as they get supercharged offensively.

It's so bizarre seeing Ezeli and good rim protection in the same sentence given how severely he was torched in the finals. I mean I know he was good the rest of the year but he was awful in the finals, they just went at him at every opportunity

Zaza dropped off pretty dramatically in the second of the last season, but with Kerr's usual careful managing of minutes to prevent that a dude who averages a double double per 36 is a steal for 2.9 mil

they tortured him on the pick and roll. he handles interior defense well but like a lot of bigs gets lost in space when he has to venture out, it was embarrassing watching him try to contain Kyrie and Bron off Thompson picks.

Zaza is worse though. in every conceivable facet of defense Zaza is worse. GS will remain outstanding on the perimeter but when stronger players smash into the paint there's not gonna be much to overcome.

Re: Ezeli and not to mention, along with Bogut, they both have the inability to score down low on a consistent basis. Other teams can just leave them alone and not worry about them on offense at all.

the last thing the Golden State offense needs is to throw the ball into the post and wait for a big man to back someone down. they were both good pick and roll players who set mean screens and sucked in defenses on rolls to the rim leaving GS shooters open on the perimeter, good offensive rebounding garbage men, and Bogut was a very good passer when he caught the ball in motion playmaking like a diet Dray. together dudes combined for 12 ppg on 59% and defenses do not ignore dunking big men that live in the paint.

to reiterate Durant is worth losing almost anything, well worth Bogut + Ezeli + Barnes, but they tossed away every center on a roster that won a title, then won 73 games, then lost a razor close one to Cleveland with an injured Bogut and Curry + Iggy playing through injuries. this was a brilliant team and Bogut and Ezeli were big parts of that as they gave the team things no one else on the roster can.

They'd have to do some serious wizardry which would have to involve LeBron and Wade on minimum contracts (among other stuff), which might take the Players Union even more pissed off then the KD situation does.
