Especially when they have a decline in stats way sooner that expected, even if Ibaka's can be explained with his changing role for OKC.

And you've hit the nail on the head about overlap with the young players. I fully expect we'll target Parsons (from the area), Batum (friends with Fournier) and Conley (just makes sense) like you said. Payton is the starter I trust the least and we absolutely need to either get someone better than him or at his level for backup so he isn't so much pressure on him / the chance of ruining him. He regressed at basically every level last year and it's hard to blame it all on Skiles. That's why I'd have preferred a top tier PG over Ibaka even though both obviously help. It's also why I wanted a star trade because with the level we can get in free agency, we're sacrificing development for something that isn't that much better than what we have. It's obviously a bit more justified by a star coming in.

Magic fans all know the reasons they are giving up on development and pushing for it now is because the GM is in his 'win or get fired' year. Hopefully it will work out but we really didn't seem that far off the playoffs last year. We might have only gotten 35 wins but we were involved in a shit ton of close games / OT games where it just got away from us in the 4th. There was every chance the team as it was could have kicked on this year but it wasn't a risk Hennigan could afford to take.

I don't know how I'll feel about it but I actually wouldn't be surprised if they still traded Vucevic.
i think he's your worst starter/young guy too and a point guard that can't shoot is a dinosaur in today's NBA. Conley would be great but he's going to a contender. shame about your GM the best bet might be to just develop the youngsters for another year and swing at the 2017 class which is PG heavy. but you do have a crazy amount of cap space so you can still max out one of them + resign Ibaka if he proves to still have gas in the tank.

it's moot since that last part about keeping Durant is what really matters, but I don't think it makes them worse. Ibaka has been declining and is further marginalized by the emergence of Steven Adams. The biggest hit (as pointed out by Zach Lowe) is that it hurts their lineup versatility. However, Oladipo can flat out ball and the addition of Sabonis to their stable of bigs should not be underestimated.

Lakers + Mozgov agree on 4 years / 64 million

Knicks + Joakim hammering out details on 4 years / 72 million

the salary cap increase is going to make this free agency absolutely stupid

5 years, $139mil for Demar Derozan with Toronto. May seem like a lot, but it's really 5 years, $40mil American if you think about it.

The Mozgov contract is so fucking stupid.

Whiteside staying with Heat (contract yet apparently)

Drummond 5 year/130 mil with Pistons.

Not a Lakers fan here, but man is that really the best they could do...? Like, literally the 1st contract of the free agent season and they go for mozgov? Couldn't get any meetings with any other decent center? Sad how low they've gotten....

Mozgov was objectively the worst center in the NBA this year (his only competition is Hibbert, depending on how you look at the numbers), and the Lakers threw 16 mil a year at him.

    Other signings

Clarkson back to Lakers, 4 year/50 mil
Whiteside contract is 4 year/98 mil
Batum back to Charlotte, 5 year/120 mil
KD says he will make a decision by the 4th

Edit : Whiteside's deal was 4 years, not 5. First player in NBA history to go from a league min salary to a max.

Lin to Brooklyn for 3 years / 36 million + Al Jefferson to Pacers for 3 years / 30 million + Bradley Beal staying put for 5 years / 128 million

Parsons offered the max by Blazers, deciding between them and Memphis. Conley reportedly waiting to see if he signs before making a decision.

not much significant movement so far but the Grizz signing a player who can play offense would be big.

Parsons agrees to max with Grizz 4 years / 98 million + Conley resigns right after 5 year / 153 million. if they can stay healthy and burnish up that 2 spot and bench a bit that's a mighty fine looking team.

Dwight goes to Hawks for 3 year / 70 million. insurance for Horford walking i reckon, kinda weird fit in the Hawks offense as he can't shoot or pass but that's a tremendous frontcoucrt defensively if Horford resigns. guess Millsap is odd man out if that happens.

Supposedly Dwayne Wade is looking at either the Knicks or the Bucks.

That would be weird for him to come back to Milwaukee.

Shouldn't. He'd be the "point guard" with Lebron a lot of the time.
