I can see it's a problem. I was responding to the article you linked which purported that the google searches were being done by people who had voted to leave and I gave a reason why it might not be them (or at least some of them). It could be children who weren't able to vote, looking up why we're bringing the apocalypse down upon them, who knows.

Agree with Koul and I'm liberal / generally on the remain side. You can't be liberal and bemoan the most fundamental aspect of democracy, nor can this referendum be distilled into sane and good people vs xenophobic racists.

The laughable part is

a. claiming this is fearmongering, when showing a lack of education on such an important topic is not fearmongering no matter who it was in the UK searching.

and b. the hypocrisy over me implying uneducated people after she generalized and said it was probably dimwits. (Which is why I implied uneducated in the first place.)

Are we talking US liberals here? Because if so, that statement is kinda disingenuous.


Liberals (well, democrats) today are about big government and a republic structure of voting for reps to vote for them. Hell, even our presidential nominee process is using the republic structure rather than straight democracy.


This is not to say that liberals can't love democracy as that is a part of having a republic. Just that it's not a contradiction to be a liberal and "bemoan" this decision.

I'm sympathetic to your argument, and part of the problem is that many of the elites aren't sufficiently in-touch to the needs of the general populace on these matters, but another part is that demagogues are willing to sell the people false promises in order to take advantage of their anger. I mean, Nigel Farage already reneged on the promise that leaving would put more money into health care, and it's barely a day after the vote happened. That doesn't seem like an auspicious start to this new path.
