Yeah, the whole "Do what you love and it won't feel like work!" thing is valid, but what one loves isn't always transferable. The art field is pretty bad about this as you're more subject to client demands, which means you might only find work with long hours making things that are either boring or even annoy.

In my case, growing up more on the artsy side probably stunted potential interest in other things. All I do know is I'm not good for physical labor due to past injuries (thanks football) and being around heat for too long just makes my scalp psoriasis explode, which obviously shuts down most restaurant work, fast or sit-in, as I doubt people want giant skin flakes in their shit. Going too deep into science or math also never really clicked. Compound all this with being in a more rural area and well paid opportunities aren't too hot.

On the other hand, if sustainability weren't so much of a concern, I could at least try to refine my abilities some more and one day churn out a sort of comic/story I think some folks around might like, but at present, I'm nowhere near the level I feel I'd need to be on the drawing end. And that would only come through a mix or practice and legitimately good instruction, not the shit I had shoveled at me at AIP and the like where you could tell the teachers didn't really want to be there.

Immigration really is not as bad or as expensive as the Brexit people make it seem, as you essentially skip the most expensive part of a humans life, being birth to adulthood. Yes, you are limited by the number if people you can accept per year, but as long as they are integrated in to society properly, they're a huge asset.

How much does a child cost from inception to their 18th birthday? How much does it cost to support a refugee for 2 to 3 years?
Thank you Sweden for volunteering to be the canary down the mineshaft.

The resulting shambles of British politics is fascinating here - I've never seen a situation where BOTH political parties were so completely ill-prepared to capitalize on the failures and weaknesses of the other.

Don't get me wrong, I've been saying for years we accept too many refugees. But they're not the problem; the problem is the left movement who insist we need to accept EVERYONE because "the earth belongs to everyone and we can't insist on upholding arbitrary borders when humans need help".

Of course we should help, but we need to make sure we can have care of the ones we already accept.

I love my country, but the naivety and humbleness of the general population passed me off sometime.

After 7 seasons of watching Midsomer Murders I think I am 100% qualified to comment that old people in the UK are fucking nuts. The way the voting went makes a lot more sense now.

Right now, there's decent odds being laid that the current Home Secretary, Theresa May takes the PM spot. 20-year+ political vet, a lot of clout with the British Conservatives, but stayed out of the rhetoric and big-promises stuff the Leave campaign was tossing around.

Canada is gonna have this problem with refugees. Trudeau wants to bring in like 25k refugees by the end of the year and invest like 250 million into it. I have nothing against taking in refugees...but the timing of it, Canada is in a recession, a really bad one. Is it smart to save others from drowning if you are drowning as well?

Just because Trudeau wants to bring 25k refugees, doesn't mean he will. They wanted to have 10k in the system, and Canada barely even has let any in.

they've already settled 28,000 and are aiming for 35,000-50,000 by the end of the year. uniquely an initially skeptical Canadian populace is on board with a growing majority supporting the resettlement program.

Yeah, I was going to say, they wanted 25k brought in before the end of 2015. The only thing I heard lately was that there is a bit of a cover up going on in my home city with the folks they brought in. For some reason they enrolled them in one of the local high schools. They have 20-25 year olds included and they aren't interacting with the students in a positive manner.

Only 25k? We had 160k asylum applicants last year, 58k processed, 32k accepted, 9k rejected. Data doesn't say what happened to the other 100k applications, I can only assume they have not been processed yet.

Out of those processed, 32 were from USA, and out of those only 6 got accepted.

I realize that is a bit low in comparison to the numbers of a country closer to Europe, but the announced the plan in like October of 2015. So they wanted or had 25k people lined up for Q1 2016.

I'm only watching it in passing so I don't know the specifics. I just remember reading the above after the election last year.

Just saw that....fucking hilarious. He doesn't have the stones to actually get the country to a self governing position, he's content to just kick over the anthill and leave the repercussions to everyone else. What a tool.
