It's pretty wild, the LibDems got 3x the votes of SNP (3.6M to 1.2M)but SNP got over 4x the seats the LibDems did (48 to 11).
One big key in the whole thing was Nigel Farage's Brexit party pulling out of Tory-controlled seats but still competing in Labour ones, which really fucked Labour.

a toast to the last prime minister of the United Kingdom
Labour's waffling on Brexit meant that LibDem was the only real Remainer party

I feel like calling Labour waffling on Brexit is a dumb point because their policy was a second referendum which was the 2017 policy Lib Dems had [1] [2]
I will agree that view point did make its way out in the public and people beat the fuck out of Labour with it.
Right, they didn't have a "Brexit is good and we're going to do it" or "Brexit is bad and we aren't" platform.
That's waffling.

Inb4 strong evidence that Russia was involved in balancing those sides and promoting that opinion
Man, the UK is fucked.
(again)
i'm not sure there will be a UK for much longer. in Northern Ireland nationalists gained more seats than unionists for the first time in its wee history and Scottish anger is well-documented. could well be left with a rump state of England + Wales in a few years if Westminster doesn't make moves to placate the uppity Celts.
the only thing i've noticed is that the uk twitterverse is becoming as nuts as ours after the election. it makes my lunchtime more interesting.
man this thread needs more memes

My favorite time of the year. When the right wing nutjobs come and lord over an election when the only benefit is literally gutting the public sector and handing it to the private sector with a golden fucking ribbon tied upon it.
It really is as simple as "business give me money, if make easy business make money business give me more".
Except "me" is the legislator and not "worker".
It's been obvious to anyone for years that Labour would lose the next election by a landslide, simply because of Jeremy Corbyn and his hard left policies. I've been Labour all my life yet on Thursday I voted for the local Conservative candidate because I want none of the shit Labour are right now. Labour still won in my area as it's one of the safe seats in the northeast of England, but I was quite surprised by how few they won by. A difference of about 5000 votes, in a seat which has been Labour since 1935. They had lost a ton of support. That type of result played out across the country and lost Labour a lot of seats which were previously safe.
Whether or not Boris Johnson will be a good prime minister remains to be seen, but a strong majority gives us a functioning government which we haven't had for a while. There's a lot of lies going around that the NHS is fucked and will be sold, but I don't think the Conservatives would commit political suicide by doing that. They would be wiped out in the 2024 election and not get back in for decades. So don't believe everything you read.
Labour need to take a long hard look at themselves and what went wrong, sack Jeremy Corbyn and his team and become a centre left party again like the Tony Blair years. Otherwise they will see the same again in 5 years time.
People say the election was about Brexit, and yes that played a big part but a lot of people were also terrified of a Corbyn government with his spend spend spend plans.
As an American I want to warn you but guess it's too late now; they'll never "sell off" NHS, they'll sabotage it bit by bit and slowly parcel out its services a tiny piece at a time until before you know it they're telling you how broken and unaffordable the system is and convincing you this is how it always was, privatization is the only way.
