I watched it and was entertained during the hurricane, but wasn't anything close to being as good as the anime. I liked the actor that played L.

It was kinda okay.
Willem Dafoe felt way too experimented compared to the rest of the team.
Light was totally horrible.
L was fine.
Mia was my reminder to not stick my dick in crazy <3
It felt like too much was crammed into a single movie and like something I could've liked if I was 14 years old.
Now why the fuck is my name still next to that thing!
For me, it feels like it'd have been better off it is just used the theme of the series and Ryuk, but the characters were different, just so we can shake any preconceptions of how each character ought to act. Could have easily spun this off into a multi-movie horror series like Final Destination or SAW, and just tie them together with story bits in the shinigami realm.
Dafoe sounds like he was having some real fun playing Ryuk though. As far as anime live action adaptations go though, it isn't completely terrible when taken on its own.
Yeah but that bar couldn't get much lower. The Japanese live action was much better even with deviations. Hell that weird spin off one where L went around solving one last case to save the world before he died was better. Haven't seen the 4th one yet but it's probably a lot better as well. But yeah at least it wasn't the AoT live adaptation lol
I just think that you can't denature characters and make them into something entirely different and expect fans to appreciate it.

Looks like RAGNTS is getting a sequel.
Better introduce Rem and the Death God World...
Also, kill Light, L, and all the like from the first movie
Lakeith Stanfield's (L) career is really taking off, wouldn't be surprised if they try to hold on to him, maybe even signing contracts for multiple films, banking on his stock continuing to rise.
He's way better in Atlanta
agreed. i didn't like his character at all and as someone who knew nothing about the series i actually thought his character was supposed to be a silly joke with the candy and stuff and then about halfway thru the film i was like oh this is all serious and not tongue in cheek.
He was delicate with his candy in the manga/anime and took time to enjoy them, compared to L in this movie just haphazardly grabbing a messy handful and popping it all into his mouth. That and the manga/anime took its sweet time establishing his enjoyment of candy throughout the series, compared to a sub-2hr movie where it may as well have been acknowledged just once as a nod, and then not seen again.
If anything the runtime in the movie works against being able to build his character. Could have dropped having him crouching onto a chair while they were at it.
Wasn't he delicate with his candy in the beginning and less so as he unraveled?
