If the Gas Tax stays, I fully expect people to start clamoring for a kWh tax for electric vehicle charging at public chargers. Most of the public chargers I charge at have their prices set by the city and a large portion of them are free so it will be interesting to see if they change that if there is a tax passed onto the customer.

People already kind of mad how electric kind of get around it or how less efficient vehicles getting hit harder. And people that need it a bit mad that diesel had a higher tax increase. That bill also increased registration fees so some might want to just shift it more to there but that doesn't really account for how much you drive like gas does. I could see someone proposing miles driven or something. Put it into the smog check and make electric get a mini one! Hell I know some people mad that bicyclist aren't paying a gas tax... not even kidding either.

I can actually point to specific road projects in my area like repaving and reshaping and retrofitting that ONLY happened because they were paid for by that tax. IF people are mad it is because they don't pay attention. CalTrans has signs up all over the state to tell you which projects were specifically funded by that tax.

There is a rather large amount of distrust towards Caltrans though... and signs like that have been around forever so some just might not really see them anymore or believe them.

Yeah I hear you on that they definitely have an image issue. I happen to have worked on some projects with CalTrans recently as a photographer documenting some projects for them and helping them with media relations. CalTrans is much more trustworthy in reality than in perception with regards to things like this. Taking that tax away will have an impact on projects for updating our infrastructure.

I got mine, but haven't had a chance to flip through it yet to read up on a few of the propositions. And since the two major papers in the bay area I read online for opinions on the different propositions are now paywalled and even going incognito doesn't get me around it, I'm going to have to really sit down and read up on a few of these to decide how i'm going to vote. Think the only one I'm settled on is no on the gas tax repeal.

I think part of the problem in my immediate vicinity is they fucked up a couple of projects which caused them to have to be redone and Caltrans was trying to get my city to foot the additional costs which made a lot of people made. Similarly when often see silly things happening like 3 guys spending 8 hours painting 1 arrow lol. I mean that's really the contractors faults usually (think they might have been to blame for one of the fuck ups since it involved failing to do surveys) but blame goes to the top.

I think a publically available more itemized look at what money is raised and where it was spent might help counter what people can see that looks like mismanagement... I know some of the big local contractors already sort of do for their own projects. There's also prop 69 which is still recent (so some people might not know/remember it just got passed) but should help alleviate some concern as it gets in peoples minds more but I think previous taxes/fees still go to general so wont really completely erase concern over where the money is goin

I just read through some of them. Prop 7 wants to abolish Daylight Savings time in California which I am all for cause it is somewhat pointless now at least to me.

If they know how far you are driving in a certain time that means they know how fast you are going.

Independent redistricting commission: Proposal 2 would take the drawing of Michigan's political lines out of the hands of the Michigan Legislature and move the function to an independent, bipartisan commission.

So it's funny, my wife is registered R, me D. Our State House race is a warzone. We get like 2-3 mailers a day to her that target our current D House Rep that's just like "She's a Democrat!" "She supported Clinton over Trump!"

Virginia Democratic governor Ralph Northam, elected in 2017 in a closely-watched race against Republican Ed Gillespie, somehow just now had his 1984 high school yearbook page dug up - and the page for Ralph shows 3 pictures of him, and one picture of two unidentified men - one in blackface and one in a klan hood.

Presumably one of those two is Ralph, it's unclear which one.
