but Californians (..and Minnesotans!?) drink enough wine for everyone to get a piece

i don't have a dog in the fight for retail liquor though i am eager to take a small step toward legal psilocybin

    voted Yes on both anyway

You'd be hard pressed to find anything close to how many people die from alcohol compared to psychedelics (without being inflated with other drug overdoses and accidents).
There's a pretty good reason why that is, you know.

seeing how many of you are comfortable with nanny state provisions telling a freeborn citizenry where they are allowed to buy a bottle of wine makes a lot more sense when one recalls how many of you tattle on each other to the mods through post reporting

the tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of those who would deny me the right of a desperate search for a gas station bottle of wine at 1AM with a homely bar girl in tow

California not being one of the states to put heavy restrictions on where one can buy alcohol has always been a bit off brand.

It's a big state of preconceived notions.

Why would the first state to legalize medical weed be heavy-handed on alcohol? We weren't settled by quakers or mormons or any of that shit

Because California loves putting restrictions on everything? Like didn't you just vote across the board on the pro-nanny state propositions?

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

Completely anecdotal but the amount of packie stores where I’m at in CA is minimal compared to where I was in CT.

That's what they call liquor stores in Connecticut, most drop the store part though and just call it a packie

SCV exploded in development after the Northridge '94 earthquake so they didn't get the dregs of strip mall liquor stores when the planned communities were erected. In the SFV there's liquor stores all over the place doing quite fine competing with the big boxes.

    People in CA don’t drive.

We just sit in traffic and rage.

Fwiw I haven’t lived just in SCV when in CA. I also work in SFV where my school is literally across the street from a “liquor store.”

I put it in quotes because while, yes, it does sell liquor it really is just a convenience store. Difference being when I think of liquor stores I think a store that literally just sells liquor and maybe adding like peanuts. (Think Bevmo as a super large version of it.) I also put it in quotes for Archi’s sake. Packie stores just sell liquor and aren’t convenience stores.

With all that being said I’m mostly just stating why I think people voted no, as I know that was a fear in CT. I am definitely down with that fear turning out to not be true. I’m just saying at the end of the day people are looking at it from a small business perspective instead of an alcoholic one.

Here in California, if you want alcohol you have a few choices:

Gas Stations - Pretty much all major chain and mom and pop stations sell alcohol but you won't find certain products there due to cost
Grocery Stores - All of our grocery stores literally have a wine isle and then towards the front, usually mixers and other alcohol products in the fridge with some of the more expensive stuff locked in a cabinet
Convenience Stores - Usually called liquor stores because they have the second best selection but also sell snacks, water, soda energy drinks, etc
    BevMo - Best selection

Out of all of the above, BevMo closes at 10pm, while the other places stop selling alcohol at 2am per California law. This is why sometimes if you go to a gas station after 2am, you will see chains around the fridge doors containing alcohol.
