A Pennsylvanian sheriff, in a Trump county, who partnered with ICE lost their reelection by 11%.
Many in this county were outraged when Sheriff Fred Harran in April signed an agreement to assist federal immigration authorities through ICE’s 287(g) program. Bucks County, north of Philadelphia, is home to some 650,000 people, roughly 1 in 9 of whom were born outside the United States.
Since Donald Trump’s return to office, local and state agencies across the country have rushed in huge numbers to aid his deportation campaign by joining 287(g), which authorizes local law enforcement officers to act as federal immigration agents. The agreement in Bucks County granted Harran’s deputies the power to question the immigration status of people they encounter and to serve and execute arrest warrants on ICE’s behalf.
Harran faced pushback from his own county’s commissioners, who argued he had no authority to sign the contract. He also faced a lawsuit from the ACLU and protests from angry residents. And his Democratic challenger, Danny Ceisler, a 33-year-old attorney and Army veteran, spoke up against the ICE partnership, putting the issue at the center of his campaign.
Ceisler defeated Harran by 11 percentage points last week, a margin of roughly 25,000 votes. He confirmed to Bolts after his victory that he intends to terminate the 287(g) agreement once he enters office.
Democrats have flip Miami mayor’s office, winning control for first time in nearly 30 years
Higgins is the first Democrat to become mayor of Miami since 1997. Looks like Latino voters either stayed home or voted for Higgins.
I hope this is a sign for the midterms. 20 points in a city that hasn’t elected a Democrat mayor in 30 years.

leopards eating faces etc
saw something where trumps support among latinos was basically even (think it was -2) when he was elected. it’s almost -40 now
all those people who said “surely Trump isn’t going to deport me, I’m one of the good ones” fell for it again etc
Honestly my biggest takeaway from that election is it only had something like a 10% turnout, reinforcing how little the average American cares about politics even on a local level.
at the same time, low turnout in what was a republican stronghold could also show no motivation to defend the current trajectory of the party
it’s been republican for 30 years. i doubt it’s solely because people are uninterested

This is why gerrymandering is incredibly risky this cycle. You gerrymander by shifting voters from safe districts into not-as-safe districts, but when you've got to be +15 or +20 or more to win you simply run out of voters to reallocate and end up more vulnerable than when you started.

Yes the maps can backfire, and I fully expect Republican controlled states to either stall or deny election results where Democrats win in the midterms.
The GOP has charted a path to getting steamrolled next year, as they have no desire to genuinely fulfill the mandates that the general population expected of this administration.

Mike Lindell admits the grift as he doesn't have any money of his own to run for governor of Minnesota. Needs public donations to pay for his needs.
That guy was a legit self-made millionaire and bankrupted himself backing a dude who doesn't know or care he exists.
Cult is a helluva drug
MN Gov Walz is rumored to be announcing today that he won't run for re-election and that Senator Klob will be running in his place.
