If you still haven't, it's far-right on the character select screen. Also having played the final copy for myself, not sure what reviewers are bitching about the low framerate. It's roughly on par with Star Fox 1. Perhaps I'm just used to it since that's exactly how I remember it playing/running, and that extends to Star Fox 2.

Also good to know pre-ordering this day 1 let me just sleep normally and stroll into my EB Games to pick it up no hassle.

8Bitdo just released a SNES Classic Edition Wireless controller/dongle for the system. Releases on December 10th, however.

And yeah, the frame rate seems fine for a SNES title that pushed the system pretty hard. Just wish RetroPie would scrape the full SNES box art with the characters on it instead of the bland background with 'StarFox2' on it.

After playing some select games, kinda wish there was an emulation option to dampen/muffle the audio a bit. It's a little on the high-end for treble/tinniness, which I'm unsure is an emulator problem, or just modern speakers/audio-connector doing their job compared to the old 14" TV on composite I had back in the day.

My dad also wants to play LTTP, so hopefully he gets the concept of the save states for saving/continuing since I get the feeling this is like any other emulator where playing in saving within a save-state will overwrite the existing data on the ROM's save file, so we don't accidentally murder each other's game.


Also a shame that multiplayer dogfight mode in Star Fox 2 didn't make it to final.

You can actually scrub off the yellow on the original SNES if you ever wanted to; there are guides out there. Thankfully mine was a run where they didn't use that sealant.

Huh, wonder if they used the chemical on more parts in different regions and less in others. It's only ever been the bottom half of the case that went yellow for me, top is completely fine.

Also had Street Fighter 2 get stuck in a blackscreen on me after winning a match.. Whether an emulation bug or not, no idea as I'm unfamiliar with the Turbo version of the game on SNES. Rewinding 5 seconds let it proceed though, so good thing that's actually a feature in my case. D-pad on the controller also passed the "Can I mash SRKs without input error" test. I actually might buy a USB adapter (possibly even to original SNES if such a thing exists/will exist?) for these.

And having had more time put into Star Fox 2 (beat Normal/Hard), uh, boy, I now see what some reviewers were saying. Pretty much any room with large textured surfaces (or being near an object that makes it appear large onscreen) bring the game to a crawl. Almost made me wonder why they didn't opt for a half-horizontal resolution measure in the non-dogfights like DOOM SNES did to keep things stable.


But yeah, for a stocking-stuffer tier purchase, I quite like it. Any word if Earthbound in this is the original or the censored version that got on Wii? Not played either, merely curious.

I actually thought about making my own Retr0bright and reversing the yellowing, but it grew on me after some years. I'm good with it now. XD

It's interesting. It doesn't happen to all of the older SNES, but a good deal of them, especially if they were the first or second versions that was released in 1991-1992.

The story goes as such for the consoles -- On the very first runs of the consoles (almost all "2CHIP" processor models) of the consoles, they used this specific chemical mixture that included ABS, to reduce casting costs. Unfortunately, ABS is a combustible substance, so another substance had to be added to the mixture as well to make it flame retardant due to the ABS. That substance was bromide -- they used this particular mixture on both console casts as well as cartridges (if you've ever been lucky to have a two-tone original cart, it's because the front half and the back half were both casted in separate parts, and one or the other side had this same problem, this also was a problem for consoles too, as you mentioned). Bromide unfortunately yellows with heat and exposure to UV light (mine yellowed due to being stored in places that was really hot in Texas way back when).

They fixed the problem with the mixture when they revised the motherboard and rolled it into their 1CHIP production line, which is why the 2nd one you saw hasn't yellowed at all.

Also I think when I get some extra cash, I'ma perform the same type of Star Fox/Star Fox 2 game mods to speed up the FPS.

There's been a part you can replace on a SuperFX cartridge to OC it for better performance. The problem is some Super FX games were tuned/balanced around a shit framerate since the game logic is tied to it.
