Got an email from think geek saying my order shipped so im all good even though their site was timing out. I'll take paying $6 shipping and waiting til Wednesday over getting 2 to 3 hours of sleep to get up in time to check stores when they open.

There's been a specific mod around for quite some time that a modder (TheDakon) has perfected (the FPS comparison video that Spider-Dan posted) -- he had what seems to be a limited run of modded carts, then stopped producing them around 2014. He achieved this by reprogramming the ROM and then by overclocking the SFX chip to 57~60 Mhz (removing the 24 mhz crystal oscillator and fitting a 57 or 60 on).

TheDakon has stated a number of times that overclocking the chip doesn't even heat up the chip all that much, so it sounds like Nintendo may have underclocked the game (and Star Fox 2, Stunt Race FX, Doom) back then with cheap shitty oscillators to cut down on costs, which is really a shame.

Lol that was me the day after I got the system. We are getting older now... can't do it like the younguns anymore, maybe.

I think it was less about "cutting down on costs" and more about conserving product life. Overclocking these will reduce their effective lifespan, though by how much is uncertain.

There was a theory I read about there not being enough bandwidth on the board to facilitate it either. DOOM can crash on an OC'd cartridge. Other FX games seem relatively fine though.

Uh, 1? I don't think there is any multiplayer numbered FF (except the MMOs, of course).

It could also be the signal delay. My TV setup is atrocious (Snes > Bose > TV) but playing on my monitor feels fine.

Same on my (now slightly older) TV. Even in game mode the lag is significant for many types of games. Moved over to my computer monitor and life was good again.

I'd love to play on a monitor, but the only monitor i have available has no speakers, and my pc monitors made for fighting games has blown speakers.

what do?

Edit: i'd love to use my Klipsch pc speakers to play. But they're only on a 3.5mm jack.

You just need an HDMI audio extractor if you've got speakers with a 3.5mm input. (and possibly a second HDMI cable)

Bunch on Amazon -- I'm currently trying to decide on one.
