Fuck it, i just want to simply add the games that i personally think am missing on the snes library, nothing else, it’s less than 50 games for me, mostly rpgs. So i’m down to do this soft mod, what are the chances of bricking?

Looking at my phone, I have 883 zipped SNES ROMs (definitely some duplicates in there that I need to clean up, now that I look at it) that take up 777MB. Compression rate seems to hover around 50%, so that works out to 1.55GB, or ~1.7MB per uncompressed ROM. Using those numbers, 300MB (with no save state space) would be 170 ROMs.

Obviously in practice, ROM sizes vary wildly. Mario World, Pilotwings, and Mario Kart are all 524KB, while DKC, Mario RPG, and SF Alpha 2 are 4MB.

    2) Having about 100-150 very good titles, and the ability to have a healthy number of suspend points.

Pick the 2nd option, you'll thank me later.
For me, the issue is more that I like to have the pretty boxart and such, instead of a Dreamcast-emu-era text list of ROMs. So even if I pare down the list to top 50 for SNES/Genesis/NES - which isn't as easy as it sounds! - I also have to leave room for assets.

I just don't think it's worth opening the box and leaving retail config if the only thing I get to do is add 100 more SNES games. From my perspective, at a bare minimum I'd need to add NES, and I'd really like to add Genesis too. NES/SNES/Genesis is the holy trinity of console cartridge gaming, and so my target is a config that allows me to have all three with boxart. So I'll probably need to wait for the external USB hack to become available.

I'll just be part of the crowd waiting on external USB support, since once that's up I'm sure someone will write a bootloader that does normal SNES Classic when nothing is attached, and then your custom library when booted up with one attached.

Turtles IV and CT all you really need for SNES. Zeldas, SMB3, and River City Ransom for NES. Gain Ground and Beyond Oasis for Genesis, done. :D

Nah seriously it is tricky to choose.

The 5 games i can think of off the top of my head are:

    Chrono Trigger
    Seiken Densetsu 3
    Terranigma
    Secret of Evermore
    Super Mario All-Stars

Another i can think of is DKC2 and 3, Breath of fire 1 and 2, and Lufia 1 and 2.

I know there’s plenty more, but those would be my top priorities.

In my case, one of the things that make a "top 50" hard is choosing between including legendary games that I happen to dislike (e.g. Metroids, Metal Gears, Phantasy Stars) and mediocre games that I personally played the hell out of. I doubt many others would want Godzilla, Yo! Noid, Wrath of the Black Manta, Astyanax, Totally Rad, Kings of the Beach, Guardian Legend, or Shatterhand in their top 50 for NES, but I would want all of them on mine.

I feel you there! On my end, I wasn't looking much into making it a multi emulation box -- I just limited my own to about 130 of the very best SNES games I could think of. HD SNES on the go when I start travelling next year, if you know what I mean.

    Speaking of travel:

8Bitdo is finally coming out with a pair of SNES controllers for the device. As a lover of their products, I highly recommend you guys pick some up, as the build quality is amazing and nearly 1:1 of an actual SNES OEM controller. The only caveat for this particular controller is the fact that it'll only be able to sync up with it's paired receiver. If nothing else, pick it up because Wireless Controller > Wired Controller in 2017, lol.

    ---

For a list of SNES games, I went with this for my TOP TOP games:

    ActRaiser
    Chrono Trigger
    Donkey Kong Country 2/3
    Final Fight Guy/2/3
    Goof Troop
    Joe & Mac
    Gradius III
    EVO
    Earthworm Jim 1/2
    Final Fantasy IV/V
    The Firemen
    Hagane
    Harvest Moon
    Illusion of Gaia
Ken Griffey Jr. Major League Baseball
    Killer Instinct
    Kirby Dream Land 3
    Mega Man 7/X2/X3/Soccer/& Bass
    Mortal Kombat 2
    NBA Jam TE
    NHL 96
    Lufia I/II
    Ninja Gaiden Trilogy
    Phalanx
    Pocky & Rocky I/II
    Rock & Roll Racing
    Saturday Night Slam Masters
    Secret of Mana 2
    Stunt Race FX
    Super Bomberman 1/2/3/4/5
    Super Mario All Stars
    Sim City
    Soul Blazer
    Street Fighter Alpha 2
    Super R-Type
    TMNT IV: Turtles in Time
    TMNT: Tournament Fighters
    Terranigma
    Tetris & Dr. Mario
    Tetris Attack
    Top Gear
    UN Squadron

I do admit however, it is pretty hard to choose SNES games, when you don't even consider some of the JP Super Famicom ones. However, at least 400 of the 720 or so US titles are crap and shovelware at least, lol.

That's a pretty good list. I'd personally want to add:

    7th Saga
    Adventures of Batman & Robin
    Aladdin
    Breath of Fire
    Demon's Crest
    FF Mystic Quest
    Flashback
    Mystical Ninja
    Madden 94
    NBA Live 95
    Pilotwings
    Rival Turf/Brawl Brothers/Peace Keepers
    Run Saber
    Super Double Dragon
    Super Star Wars/ESB/ROTJ
    Tiny Toons: Buster Busts Loose
    Top Gear 2
    Zombies Ate My Neighbors

Add mine to yours and the stock games, and we're basically at 100 already.

Damn, you got some quality gems in yours too. Pilotwings/Zombies/Aladdin alone consumed many of my childhood hours before I came upon more and more JRPGs.

Fuck that entire Super Star Wars series however, lmao.

I thought I was the only one that liked Ken Griffey Junior MLB. Amazing choice.

To add a few more to your list
    -Secret of Evermore
    -Sunset Riders
-Fan translation of mother 3 (ok it's not SNES but it's so easy to install on the snes classic)

Man I was so disappointed DKC2 wasn't included, probably the defining game of my early gaming

Can't download it on normal 3DS either, or switch. Such BS

I played Pilotwings a bit, never fully because I wasn't good at it so I didn't learn until recently you go from derpy trainee to basically rambo in the later half of the game.

The game really is god damn amazing. I'm not even a fan of baseball or was as a child, but my original game has easily racked up over hundreds of hours with my little brother and friends. We used to hold sleep-over tournaments and get so hype over it. Home run derby tournaments even more so. Only rule was to not use the Mariners, lol.

Also I lived a childhood in which I never played Sunset Riders. Q_Q

Pilotwings was actually my 2nd game for the console, next to Mario Kart and World (which came with the system of course). I've only ever beaten the game once from beginning to end, but seeing that fat ass dude-trainer crying at the end was so satisfying, after how he treats you like shit throughout the later half of the game. I don't blame anyone for not finishing the game, those Helicopter missions alone were soul-crushing in terms of difficulty.

Rare doesn't play nice with Nintendo anymore, a real shame cause we'll probably never see an updated version of DKC2, DKC3, or DK64 until they do.

It's funny... out of the 9 games I kept at the end of the NES era from my original 30+ game NES collection, 5 of them are Tecmo Super Bowl, Baseball Stars, Blades of Steel, Kings of the Beach, and Ultimate Basketball. Even as a pre-teen, I was always about head-to-head competition!

bases loaded 1-3 were the bane of my existence as a child, i was always trying to grind on FF and my older brothers would kick me off the NES to play BL, lol.
