I'm halfway done with the monitors trip, and I'll start back across the Southwest today. So concludes my hefty RGB/scart investment spawned by this thread and later r/crtgaming.
I bought 3 Panasonic monitors, 1 19" and 2 13". I have to do a lot of cosmetic cleaning on the case of the 19" but its picture looks great. Dude definitely knows his stuff -- helped me use the service menus and diagnose the medical monitor I have with image issues. Its deflection board needs a full recap, yet another soldering project for us to finish soon.
here's to safe travels on the return leg's 1100 miles~
So like. If this is still a thing some people want to have I'd suggest looking around again. I've seen two in my local store in the last month just kind of chilling there either because the fad died off or people just don't see it in the case or something. I don't actually want one I'm perfectly fine with my ROMs. But maybe call some places or ask around.
SNES Classics are everywhere now, dawg. Pour out a glass for your local scalper.
it can't be too long until the manufacture shift back to the NESC
tepid props to Nintendo on this one for stepping up production - it has to be even more available in non-NA regions
The RGB monitor haul was a success, and now we've even got a few (hopefully easy and fun) electronics repair projects: 2 deflection boards to recap and a CRT projector power supply issue to troubleshoot & fix.
PlayStation 2 SCART cables showed up last night; PS1 games have never looked so good.
In Super NT news, a new jailbreak has been uploaded to the console which adds CopySNES, allowing you to dump your cart data onto SD card, a simple cheat menu function allowing for Game Genie inputs, and a debug menu allowing you to toggle on and off various functions of the console:

Kevtris has mentioned that he will soon add an SPC (SNES Music) Player and visualizer to the firmware soon. He'll also be retooling the way the scanlines are drawn. Apart from that, about 99% of the reported bugs have been fixed and rectified as well as all other general problems. If there's no more bugs left to fix, there's a very very high chance that 8-bit cores will be added to the console, by way of Jailbreak.
Hey funny thing is, is that I found one at Target one day just sitting there in the glass cases. I'm surprised I even found a one!
Oh my god. Really?
Holy shit, call the local new paper and get this on the front page! Damn it, we cannot afford to miss out on this hot story.
Best Buys supposedly got another stock, so worth checking if you're still looking.

Walmart has them on their website
Best Buy has them too, just ordered.

Actually, (and ironically) the story has changed for the Nt Mini:
https://support.analogue.co/hc/en-us...i-AvailabilityOriginally Posted by Analouge
The Nt Mini will no longer be sold in it's current form, partially due to legal troubles with Nintendo over the N30/FC30 8Bitdo controller design (they no longer sell it directly nor do they advertise them separately), and also troubles with getting the aluminum needed to produce the units normally.
The general consensus is that it will return, in a newer, much cheaper form in the future. However what's makes this an interesting scenario is how Kevtris reportedly did the deal with the cores -- he basically licensed the NES core out to Analouge, aside from the other cores. So it could honestly go either way for support for the Super NT. If the NT Mini no longer makes a return, there will be no reason why we won't see it on the Super NT now that it's official & jailbreak firmwares are very mature. Personally if I were them, I'd cease production for the NT Mini completely, and work to develop the Super NT, then produce contemporary FPGA Sega Genesis product after.
Also shameless post:
I've been uploading videos showing off the Super NT slowly. Mostly gameplay for now, but I'll eventually make videos on it's functionality as well.
My Super NT is out for delivery this morning - HYPED!
Should I even bother with a SNES Classic at all with a jailbroken NT? I'm guessing that the hardware emulation of the NT >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> software emulation of the SNES Classic?
I have to say that since getting the Super NT I haven't bothered to use my SNES Classic at all, other then when I travel. The accuracy is just too damn good.
The jailbreak for the Super NT doesn't support any of the special chips at the moment, so people have been purchasing the SD2SNES (or keeping their Classics) as well so they can have more of the library to play with.
With that said if you aren't interested in the SD2SNES, you will have the rest library of games to play with that would be possible with say, the Super Everdrive flashcart (sell it off if you have one). That's about 1600~1800 games (not including hacks) with a solid Smokemonster ROM pack. I use a special formatted 64GB SD card so as to future proof for when SPC Player support and extra cores are added.
If you want when you get your Super NT, I can help you get a pack!
So the NT has support for things like the FX chip natively, just not through the jailbreak when loading via the SD card slot? That's a bit of a drag, but if it's only a matter of time, then I can wait for things like Star Fox, SMW2, etc.
Man, those SD2SNES are NOT cheap - pretty much the same price as a the NT itself! Think I'll just stick with the jailbreak + SD slot for pretty much 99% of my needs.
And I will definitely take you up on the pack offer. I've spent many an hour attempting to groom my own collection in my own manner (moving "The" to the front of the file name, manually changing some title names just so that they're ordered a bit differently, etc), but that's just soooooooooooo time consuming.
Yep! That's the story so far -- all chips are supported natively through carts with almost 100% accuracy. You can also be sure that EVERYTHING plugged in is supported, be it authentic carts, repros, hacks, homebrews and modded carts in all regions. If it's not working the cart needs to be cleaned or had bad traces or components.
Hah also that pack offer comes with the caveat that might offend your OCD I think. It's complete as far as main, original games, but renaming some of the hacks have the same problems you've just mentioned, lol. It's an older pack I've been using for about 7 months prior for the SNES Classic and emulators.
Smokemonster doesn't distribute ROMpacks anymore, though he has created a Python script that will parse the ROMs you have, check them for accuracy and build a pack hierarchy for you:
https://github.com/SmokeMonsterPacks...Lists-Database
I'll look into it on Monday and see if it rewrites them as well.
