Every Target in my district got 30-50 NES classics, and only 2-4 controllers at most.

Was able to get 2 minis + controllers online yesterday. Went to Walmart tonight and they still had about 10 on the shelf.

It did in the JP SNES Classic.

I have a lot of fond memories of that game. The soundtrack is outstanding and the gameplay is mostly great; the only really annoying part is how you lose your speed and weapon powerups every time you get hit in the overhead sections.

I distinctly remember the lottery in the theme park level, and how you could set your controller to autofire and make infinite money (because the lottery odds were rigged against the house).

I mostly just remember the 50 some character long passwords because they couldn't be arsed to use battery backup.

Mabubeezareel, if you get this, my bad! I kinda disappeared from BG for a while a little after that last post of mine here.

    I sent you a reply.

Also with that said, Super NTs will be shipping at the end of September if anyone is interested. It's on preorder status, but likely won't sell out this time. Also Kevtris has gone MIA which means they might announce a new FPGA console (Sega Genesis) soon.

Also a mod should change the name of this channel to Classic/Retro games or something!

Reggie says no plans to release an N64 Classic anytime soon. He said the NES and SNES Classic were meant to fill a hardware gap between the end of the Wii U and launch of the Switch. Retro content will instead be put on the Switch Virtual Console.

Due to licensing issues and the abomination of a controller, the N64 Classic was always a pipe dream but this probably puts the nail in the coffin of anyone holding out.

that would be a lot cooler if the Switch had a virtual console that went beyond 1983

Now when he says Virtual Console does he mean a legitimate one like we had on Wii/3DS/Wii U? Or the joke of games online subs get?

Online. The "virtual console" stuff isn't his words. If you could actually buy the games outside of a subscription I'd probably be fine with Nintendo's usual slow start for adding games, but as it is it's only NES and not worth the price of entry for me at least.

That sucks. I know they won't, but I really hope they can this shit and just add a VC like people want. I mean would it kill them to do that and give online subs a perk of a few free games they can play for that month/buy at a discount?

So just to verify the current state of things...

If I want to play original NES cartridges:

    - without using RF or composite
    - on a (non-CRT) HDTV
    - with scanlines

then it seems my options are:

    a) RGB-modded NES with scanline-capable upscaler (Framemeister, OSSC)
    b) Emulation-based consoles that can read cartridges (Retron5, RetroFreak)
    c) FPGA-based console (NT Mini, AVS NES)

I don't believe there is a way to achieve my goal without buying one of the six products mentioned above. Am I wrong?

    Sounds about right.

If the Nt Mini were available and priced more like the Super Nt, I'd say that's your best bet. Since both it and Option a) are pretty expensive, you might be best off with a Retron 5 and its mild flaws.

Freaking MLIG's videos have sent enough gamers into the abyss that the 13/14" component-capable consumer CRTs (ex: Toshiba 14AF45, Sony 13FS110) are like $100-$150 now.

And any multiformat pro monitor will demand $500-$1000+. I think I need to let that dream die.

Considering an AVS NES. But it's a low priority.

    While I'm here:

In one of the Framemeister review videos, there's a couple of screenshots that I don't recognize. I think they're from the same game, but I'm not sure. Anyone know what these are from?

    Spoiler: show

I love MLIG, I really do, though I also despise them for introducing me to the proverbial carrot-on-a-stick that is the modern retro scene. Though I haven't gone completely off the deep-end yet, especially since I don't own any original hardware older than the PS1 and haven't delved into the world of PVMs, I've still spent far more money and time tinkering around with things like the OSSC and Framemeister than I ever imagined. Speaking of which, the Framemeister would be such a perfect device if it weren't for the color noise and in-game resolution change sync issues.

And while I absolutely adore the Super NT, the fact that it will likely never support enhancement chips via SD card loading makes me sad - I don't want to have to shell out another $200 on top for an SD2SNES.

SD2SNES on Super Nt would be a pretty slick setup tho

My 2019 retro goals include Wii, Xbox, and GameCube/GBI homebrew. ('-')

What advantages would getting a sd2snes + super nt (combo i’m looking to do) over getting a jailbroken super nt with roms loaded? Would certain games like starfox not work?
