Deputy PM says country to suspend European Convention on Human Rights for a while - @CNNTURK_ENG
The 245 Sports Ministry personnel might seem moot, but the Turkish Super Lig plays in Europe. Galatasaray, Fenerbache, and Beskitas have been known to be reasonably formidable teams. There's genuine questions now if they're going to continue participating in the Champions League and the Europa League.
Or maybe even have a league at all.
I love how everyone is just appeasement-ing this as though it worked so well in the past.
Hopefully they dont go after the Armenians or Kurds. Again...
BREAKING: More than 10,000 passports cancelled due to flight risk: Turkish minister - @AlArabiya_Eng
What's the word on the citizens handling this? I can't imagine there isn't a group wanting to stop this.
Yeah. They are all trying to leave as fast as possible, per a Turkish chick I dated for bit.
Seems legit
Well her family is old, rich, and liberal. They were kind of expecting things to get worse but not so quickly. I was texting with her during the coup attempt.
This will be an incredibly unpopular opinion.
I wish that these massive waves of people would realize that they could fight for their country because running away to another country with even less then they had in Turkey may very well be worse then standing up to Erdrogan. Cut the head off the snake...yadda....yadda...yadda
What country is there to fight for at the rate this is going? When the government and half the population (I believe) is against the traditional structure and history the country is built on, why stay to watch your home die?
Highly optimistic and unrealistic. Survival takes precedence. If I had a family and the means to leave, I'd be getting the fuck out too. What you're saying is understandable but it's like asking the citizenry to stand up to the Khmer Rouge or Mao Zedong - and we all know how well those went.
Seconded this with someone I'm talking to in Turkey. Although she says it's more that this happens so often so those that can't just leave are kind of accepting it. A lot of people don't agree with the decision and there are riots that are encouraged by the dictator. They pretty much want to make it a theocracy again from my understanding. Wanting to implement policies that women cannot leave after a certain hour etc etc.
Safe today with an increased chance of death tomorrow. Sigh, sucks for those who are unable to leave.
