A common theme I've heard across networks, is comparing Erdagon to Putin.
Consolidating power, more authoritarian, arresting those against him, etc

The coup I believe is all but failed. This will not end well for anyone involved. The people who were a part of the coup are as good as dead, and Eragon or whatever is going to use this as an excuse to purge who he doesn't like. This is the worst possible outcome for Turkey, and for the world.
RIP Kurds. You guys had a good run.
But hey we're all about freedom just as long as you're not giving us vital access to your airspace.

the freedom of a rogue military clique using armed force to overturn the will of the people and overthrow democratically elected leaders in the sterling tradition of Napoleonic representation
euphemism aside would you suggest it is not in our interest to combat Daesh? would you suggest such an endeavor is not also a moral imperative? Erdogan presently aids us in that moral and self-interested endeavor, just as once Stalin's sadistic Bolshevik regime aided us in defeating a greater evil in the Axis, and as once the Great Emancipator Abraham Lincoln sent runaway slaves back to their owners at the start of the Civil War so pro-Union slave states would not join the Confederacy.
effective geopolitics does not have the purity Berners seek but you would do well not to reduce it to the moral dichotomy of a child. there are competing moral claims and we navigate them as best we can. in the present instance of two undemocratic yet non-extremist forces clashing stability and an end to the violence is the prerogative as violence breeds extremism among all actors.
