This show is getting some great chatter in the Netflix thread and everyone has really seemed to enjoy it. It definitely deserves its own thread just to get more eyes on it.

Let's get one thing out of the way. Winona Rider as a distraught mom, was on point. Regardless of whatever crazy shit happening in her life, I think she delivered. Especially that whole scene with her hacking away the wall.

That being said, I personally enjoyed the whole Jonathan and Nancy monster hunting scenes.

I'm with you on Rider. The "parent that no one believes" has to be some sort of established trope, probably with a clever name, and that role is generally super annoying in movies and shows but at least she crushed it.

@Nancy - yeah, other than being an annoying teenage girl for the first half, she really did turn pretty badass near the end.

I think they turned a lot of the tropes on their head. There were a lot of points where you think it's going to go the classic direction to only have it flipped. That's one thing I really enjoyed about it, along with pretty much everything else.

I'm just happy that the Sheriff didn't go full on McConaughey (True Detective) off the bat. Considering his own backstory, it's a nice thing they let the character develop before he went ham.

Just like to add my recommendation to the show. I watched the first ep before work Friday, and literally finished all of it after work before going to bed (only 8 eps long). Thought it was great, didn't know if it was a show for everyone. Glad others liked it as much as I. Good 80s nostalgia.

That really sours me if that's the case. What is the overall experience is it just weird or is it M. Knight Shamalyon trash?
