Spoiler: show
The young Mrs. Doubtfire.
Just finished it last night, really enjoyed the whole show. Felt like a combination of The X-Files, ET, and Stephen King's It.
All this talk about a season 2, though, and I can't help but wonder if the show would be better served without one. Or at least without a direct sequel season, similar to American Horror Story or Fargo. I feel like these characters have told their story, and more of these same characters might be too much of good thing. Sure, there are loose ends - the rift is presumably still open, Eleven's fate is uncertain, Will's throat slugs are...concerning.
Not saying I wouldn't watch a direct continuation season 2, but I feel like it might be a tall order to try to continue on with the same characters.
Considering Will's throat slugs, they really don't have much of a choice but use nearly all of the same characters in a sequel.
Yeah; I feel the same way. This story needs to continue.
All this slug talk got me thinking about King's Dreamcatcher. It parallel's not only the team aspect, but also the alien involvement.
That's part of my concern here. A huge part of the story was the discovery of the supernatural and characters' reactions to unbelievable events. It's going to be hard to perpetuate that sense of wonder if the characters (and viewers) have seen it all before. Some series do it fairly well (it became an ongoing joke in Buffy, for instance), while others (Heroes most notably) fall flat. Painting oneself into narrative corners or shoehorning ill-fitting characters into plots because the actors have a contract can also cause problems. Hopefully, Stranger Things can avoid those pitfalls. Of course, not all anthologies work either - True Detective comes to mind, so neither method is a guarantee of success or failure. I realize I'm in the minority, so I don't know there's any point beating a dead horse further. Either way, I'll be looking forward to Season 2 and hoping it's as wonderful as Season 1.
I don't think I've read/seen Dreamcatcher, but the Stephen King story I was most reminded of was It. Period piece, small town Americana, disappearing townsfolk, group of misfit kids (with exactly one girl) saving the day, other-dimensional bad guy found lurking in the shadows. Of course, if you look long enough, there's probably lots of parallels to a number of his stories.Originally Posted by Hirroninus
Eleven and the whole slug mouth issue can technically be resolved through brand new characters in a completely different town.
Freaks and Geeks meets Elfen Lied. Will's was not the only slug (just in our world). We know nothing about them so the show could place us in the present and it grows to what we have already seen, could mutate to something new (since it's in our world), or keep us in 1980s.
Were they intending to use the upside down world to eavesdrop on other people? It looked that way in one of the experiments before the rift opening. There could be a political intrigue plot about assassinations using the upside down world to break into restricted or heavily guarded areas. Maybe the Dept. of Energy isn't the first to figure out that the upside down world exists and they use Will as a catalyst to stop some kind of human-based threat (or do it themselves). Then the SLUGS out of fucking NO WHERE. Then Season 3.
I don't think so. I think it might be a case of the creature being a creation of her fears. She's the only one that could stop it, she opened a portal to his world, and he's the only thing living there. She feels lonely, is scared of her own powers and are forced to use them against her will.

Apparently they also reveled that season 2 will be heavily influenced by James Cameron (Aliens, T2)
Well season 1 was too so I'm not sure how that's any different. Maybe they mean it'll have less Spielbergy moments.
