I'm really surprised and impressed with just how many pokemon, let alone different pokemon, they're packing into this. And yeah, the attention to detail is phenomenal so far. I keep posting that I'm hyped for this, but I legitimately am really really looking forward to this movie.

This is kinda looking like a team rocket/whoever uses bad greninjas searching for legendary pokemon (probably to enter into fights like shown in the trailer) and making/stumbling into mew/mewtwo. Kids dad stumbles onto the plot and gets offed, this pikachu is a part of the experiments, ???, profit.

Kinda similar to the first animated movie, but better.

Shot on Film Instead of Digitally to Make it Look More Realistic

“There wasn’t a lot of green screen. Our director, Rob Letterman…wanted to shoot on location as much as possible. We shot in London, and for like a week in Scotland which is like a desktop background,” Justice revealed. “He had this vision to put the Pokémon up against this urban backdrop and use this gray, grainy filter. We shot on film so it gave it that natural grain.” Justice went on to say that shooting on film “makes [the Pokémon] pop more” and compliment Director Rob Letterman as “he was all about the actor and our performance.”

For those of you not familiar with “shooting on film” or the movie making process in general, shooting a movie that way means that actual film stock was used and, like Justice Smith said, gives the film a more realistic and grounded aesthetic. More recently, many films have switched to being shot with digital image sensor. While these kind of cameras are typically more flexible and have more dynamic range, some people believe a certain edge or feeling is lost when shooting digitally.

Game Informer has a feature in their next issue that they spoke in length of on their podcast and they confirmed that the early concept of pikachu was based off of Danny Devito. The producers and animators hope that they can release the behind-the-scenes footage of them using Devito movie lines to set up the production.

They even put Dialga/Palkia/Arceus in there, though only in statue and that makes me wonder just how deep they'll go with representing the lore, as far as Arceus supposedly being the god of creation and all.
