the fundamental difference is Bernie used the term real unemployment rate and Trump did not. it is a minor linguistic distinction but real unemployment and the official Bureau of Labor Statistics unemployment rate are two dramatically different measures. i don't think Don earned a pants on fire for it though, it was just lazy and loose talk, or perhaps like most Americans he would be unable to articulate the difference.

I'm not sure why they decided to fact check it, may have just been an interesting historical point to them or whoever wrote it. I guess this depends on your point of view because in the article it's clear that it's thought that all European settlements in what would become the U.S. are considered part of the U.S. historically.
