If you look at why that is, the majority of that blame isn't on him but people didn't care, they just see washington working the same. I was expecting the fact that Trump insulted virtually everyone that wasn't a white male to compensate for that, but here we are.
This is where the sad irony of Obama's administration lies -- GOP worked hard to be the party of "NO" for the last 8 years, which in turn gave the image to normal people that the system simply doesn't work at all. Perception is reality for reals, and Obama got the shaft big willie style and set up as the fall guy for something he didn't want to happen in the first place. And yeah, people really don't give a fuck at all, despite the government really not working well at all since Reagan's time.

Tonight will go down in history similar to Dewey vs Truman & Bush I vs Dukakis.

Wonder who Trump will have as Secretary of Defense. Think he'd bring Petraeus out of retirement?

I'd say take a good look hard look at Jeff Sessions.

and yes, i voted for clinton. really really wishing bernie had won right now, but clinton struck me as the best of the lot after seeing the various candidates stances on different issues. jill stein was mostly in the right place but she didn't have all her facts straight and her stances were a bit on the... ineloquent side. clintons were well written and backed up with facts, which either means she's very smart or surrounds herself with a smart team... either of which is good to have as a president. sadly, smarts doesn't exactly equal social smarts, and people like gred entrenching the opposite sides beliefs wasn't helping. i couldn't even discuss politics with people, because the instant you mention ANY kind of politics you get people saying they aren't going to talk about it and are leaving if you even mention one more word.

i mean, theres even been studies showing that overwhelming facts just cause the opposite effect that is desired - you gotta help them reach the decision on their own, not try and cram it down their throats.
I think this is very close to the truth, except that framing it as "coddling" and "gently nudging them into thinking rationally" is patronizing and the person with that in mind is going to come off like a dick more times than not (imo)

Definitely think some people do more harm than good for their own cause with their own hyper activity and self-assuredness. And I get it, it's hard to help. Sometimes you have an overwhelming grasp of a certain topic and have personally researched it so deeply that you know the person you're arguing with's arguments better than they do... and it's tough not to get condescending as all hell and feel all good/warm but when we're dealing with imprecise things like politics, economy, foreign policy, race relations, etc it's just not possible to have 100% foresight. It's like gambling, and we've got people swearing to high heaven that the odds of their decision is basically 100%

I think people would be a lot more kind to the 'other side' if they accepted the fact that their candidate had at least a >1% chance of not being the best available choice

that, and some people honestly should just fuck off and not give a fuck about the election. I really dislike all the "EVEYRONE HAS TO vOTE - IT"S OUR DUTY" and cramming this stuff down people's throats 24/7. Shaming those who don't want to have an opinion and then getting upset the country voted the wrong way is just so... dumb. Some people aren't critical thinkers, or don't want to think critically about an election, or have their own life problems they need to focus on, etc etc

So, are enough GOP against Trump, that Obama's current SCOTUS nomination gets passed in the lame duck session, to keep it out of his hands?

Not likely; most Conservatives and GOP liked the people Trump said he'd nominate.

Pretty much this. While I don't want to pretend to be all Nostradamus with 20/20 hindsight at play, I've effectively "seen it" with my earlier derision of Ohio voters and how they too frequently vote against their own interest. And the root of that is usually not having all the facts. Like, Coal is one of those big issues here. No amount of it internationally trending downward registers. The "we're putting coal miners out of business!" line from Hillary, taken out of context, was hammered consistently here under the premise she's out to kill coal alongside those who support her. Presuming we at all care about the environment, coal's fate is inevitable. Instead of denying that, it would honestly behoove us to work on programs to transition workers into alternative energy programs at no cost to them, assuming they'd want to make the change. But no, we've gotta just pander to the good ol' days that'll never fucking be again. :/

Further perspective, my sister has brain cancer and her husband works in coal. She loathes Obamacare, generally ignorant of why it's suffering, but also 100% forgetting the fact that without it she probably never would've gotten her chemo, meds since, and long since been worm food. But no, it's the muslim nigger's fault and they're conveying that mentality onto my niece and nephew. In the case of the kids, they think I don't see the shit they post on FB, but they 100% confuse me for other tech illiterate adults. So, while I try to reign them in from time to time, there are instances where it feels more like I'm their parent than my sister is.

Now multiply this shit by however big farm families get. I know I've commented feeling out of place and stuck here in Ohio in other threads in the past, but it's stuff like this that snowballs into the reason why. They don't want progression. They want things to not change even if it is for the better.

Well, republican house/senate/president (and they are idiots) so you don't have to worry about Obamacare lasting much past inauguration.

Also for those that don't really reddit, Correct the Record is a "campaign" by Clinton to correct hearts and minds. It got so bad even the mod team was completely bought out. Now that they are out of work, people can actually post how they feel without massive downvotes and shill replies. It's hilarious to watch.

    And Dodd-Frank. And the CFPB.

The financial stuff comes first. Reconciliation is only 51, and those are definitely all budgetary measures.

The social stuff MAY come later with the supreme court pick.

Oh, and enjoy your fast-lane internet too.

So since republicans has won the 3 layers that means that all decisions trump take will pass without opposition?

    That's scary

Not necessarily, because Trump is more of a rando than a Republican, but it does mean that anything they agree on will pass no problem.

Yeah but does republicans have a reputation of opposing what their "leader the president says"?

Democrats will theoretically try and logjam the senate to prevent a lot of legislation, but reconciliation will be used to pass budgets -- reconciliation requires a simple majority of 51 rather than 60.

Obamacare and the CFPB will almost certainly be defunded and die. Dodd-Frank might be a bit trickier, since the laws don't require funding (afaik), but I imagine republicans will certainly make the case that it affects the budget in the long term.

And as always there's some democrats who will work with republicans to produce pretty bad legislation. I imagine a lot of "WHEN THEY GO LOW WE GO HIGH" charitable acts of bullshit.
