Maybe Julian Castro or Cory Booker.

I won't be surprised if we see Democrats radicalize the way Republicans did after Obama 2008, especially because a ton of progressive policies and principles will be under attack, so people will be motivated to organize.

You're right though in that the Democratic bench is not deep and it's going to take time to rebuild nationally. I think if things go bad economically, you'll see Rs turn populist D in reaction, but that's a big hypothetical right now.

I'd say Warren but I think she's shown herself to be too smart to want to be president.

I actually think Gabbard has a lot of potential in the party, but as for who is the answer I cannot tell you as I am not managing any kind of DNC field operation lol. What is needed is somebody to put forward an agenda that all Americans, no matter who they are, can get behind.

America is at its best when some kind of event brings us together. Political discourse in this day and age is nothing but pitting one against another. Until that cycle is broken the game will never change.

As for 4 years from now, that heavily depends on what president-elect Trump does with the immense power he is about to be handed.

I wanna wish for a Michelle Obama run so we can actually have that first female president. But with the white-lash that put Trump in in the first place, I don't see her chances being very good.

We might need a new name to come from nowhere, like Obama did in 2008.

I don't know whether Bernie would've had a better chance or not. But one thing is clear, the DNC needs to reach younger voters rather than alienating them. The Gred approach of "take what you're given and learn to like it" clearly doesn't work. They are gonna have some work cut out ahead of them if they want to have someone who can stop Trump from being re-elected in 4 years.

I checked the math. Lisa's birthday is in 1981, the wiki claims she runs for president at 38 years of age. This would put her running for the 2020 election.

And by rebuild ties you mean he's basically said "We're ready to have our sanctions lifted now."

I think people need to move past this notion of getting people to cross the isle, not that it's necessarily a bad thing but the reality is we live in a more polarized political climate than ever and getting people to do that is becoming more and more difficult.

If the last 4 presidential elections have taught us anything it's that turnout is the deciding factor far more than anything else, and despite what old tricky Dick would have you believe, Democrats are the "silent majority" in this country and the numbers back that up.

A friend of mine who's response is "let's see what happens , I won't judge till I see results".

I was livid, using common sense to justify this result is absurd.

kind of wonder if tim kaine ended up being the worst choice and if someone like castro or booker would have moved the needle enough.

If it wasn't for Tim Kaine Virginia would've turned red.

Tim Kaine was already promised the VP spot years ago so they didn't really have any other choice.

I would think that this election cycle should have shown that both the RNC and DNC have a lot of room for improvement and that the entire process needs updating. There's proof the DNC was doing shady shit, and I'm sure the RNC is also. It might be time for the people to contemplate starting a new party or two and trying to get more options.

I'm not saying this should be the overarching strategy. Just saying that politics is reactionary and assuming that our institutions survive Trumpism, a lot of people could wake up 4 years from now feeling like they got conned by the Republicans.

The electoral system isn't designed for more than 2 parties. Once again, with her possibly winning popular vote I really think it's gotta go but I don't think anything is gonna come out of it.
