Perm shared this on FB and I think it's exactly my feelings: https://medium.com/@trentlapinski/de...597#.skcx1wemw

This is the problem with America today, the technology that was supposed to bring us together actually isolated us into echo chambers and drove us further apart.
At the end of the day, this is an opportunity to learn and grow and consider another world view. This is a wakeup call to get out of safe spaces, politically correct thinking, shatter echo chambers, and challenge yourself to consider the other side of the fence. This is an opportunity to reach out and truly learn to understand each other.

The electoral college is the only federally recognized voting, right? Like, the constitution basically delegates the electing of electors to the states?

It would be pretty hard to break with that system and implementing federal voting would likely be difficult both because it would require a constitutional amendment because the contents of that amendment would likely be closely scrutinized by the various states. Repubs would want to stick a bunch of voter fraud prevention measures in there, while the founding fathers were like "send us like 3-10 guys you pick and we won't ask questions."

good point about tim kaine and VA, but tactically i'd think they get more out of castro possibly snagging FL or booker with greater black turnout overall. more what ifs, doesn't mean much i suppose.

also i do think michelle could easily run in 2020 and take it. all it will take is 4 years of the shitfest we're about to endure. she is more popular than anyone, including barack himself and i think the comfort of having barack back in office again would be pretty huge for some voters. i know a lot of people think that clinton losing was due to people hating on women and not wanting to see a woman in office. but strategically it boiled down to any one of a few things michelle could fix, like lower turnout with youth and the black vote. i obviously assume that the next time around dems are going to be explicitly aware of the angry white rural vote.

Republicans have been getting conned by their leaders for five decades. It's not even just one generation at this point. I don't know why this will be different when Trump didn't even have enough content in his campaign for him to not do and them to feel conned about.

Thats my fear though. Michelle and Barack are gonna rally those angry white voters just as much for next time. I don't know if Dems can create enough turnout to outdo that. It really falls on Trump publicly failing but I don't know if thats possible with the state of news and media.

Except you have Clinton supporters spewing their hatred about how everyone who voted Trump is "a sexist bigot redneck"...so they're accusing Trump supporters of being hateful, while they actually are being hateful. The first thing (some of) the Clinton supporters did after finding out Trump won was to go and riot.

If they're trying to make a point that Trump will ruin America, theyre doing a fucking terrible job of it.

You're right though in that the Democratic bench is not deep and it's going to take time to rebuild nationally. I think if things go bad economically, you'll see Rs turn populist D in reaction, but that's a big hypothetical right now.

Isn't this how every election goes? Both sides will have members who erupt into angry lashful rhetoric in response to losing?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that any failures during Trump's administration (ugh that's hard to say) he will turn into a complete shit show and the media will love him for it because it's entertaining and gets them ratings.

And you know, everything else is going to be Obama's fault from his terms. Even though all the shit Obama had to clean up from Bush was still Obama's fault lol

Things that I've been reading/looking at show that there's a good chance that a major economic issue is going to hit north america and that would happen regardless of who was elected the next president.

literally no idea what you're trying to get at, attaching that to my own point. my point is trump supporters are projecting what they think is fine and ok for them to what is fine and ok for people who were against him. it's brain damage.

if you wanna argue separately that some people have gone off the rails, sure, they have. they shouldn't. still don't see what that has to do with me not wanting to hear things like "we'll be ok" simply because they promise.

besides that, do you 100% truly believe if clinton won that trump supporters wouldn't be doing far worse things? especially in a close national vote?

mmm, i don't see what's on the horizon that would've happened regardless of who was elected. but i do see the economy going into a recession once trump's tax plan hits us all.

I honestly don't think it's going to wait for the repercussions of the tax plan to hit (which would take over a year).

Our economy is propped up by global belief in the stability of our government and the federal reserve. If Trump continues acting crazy in the weeks after inauguration, we're going to have problems. This is assuming that the stock market doesn't crash in anticipation of a Trump presidency at some point in December.

People need to remember that aside from Trump having no interest in actually doing the job himself, the Republican establishment will not allow him to go off the rails.

You can expect the same Reaganomics of the last 30 years, it will not all come crashing down.

Which, in some ways will make this entire process even slower and more painful, the effects will not be immediately apparent and easier to explain away.

I'm curious how much spending Congress will convince Trump to cut / how much of a deficit hike Trump will convince Congress to allow in order to pass massive tax cuts on the rich?

    Strawman is strawman.

We KNOW there are riots and students protesting Trumps win. We dont know what would happen if it were the inverse.
