It legitimately would not be all that difficult for our family to move to Canada because of my husband's field.

    But fuck the cold.

I'll wait a few years to get closer to the apocalypse before we finally make that move.

    (hyperbolic, relax)

Well, imagine if Hillary won and all the people that would be screaming about how she was going to take their guns away. Now imagine that same fear for: Marriage rights, Abortion rights, Equal rights, Climate Change, Healthcare, NATO, Regulations that are there to prevent bad shit from happening, Freedom of Religion (ones that aren't Christianity), Freedom of Speech (because Trump likes to sue/go after people that don't put him in a positive light), etc.

I never post in politics or election threads because over the years I have become disenfranchised with our country and mostly distrust our government. I don't think I have ever even posted in a election thread on BG. This one has forced me too. I am legitimacy despressed over this. America does not realize what it's done.

Kudos and all to the people protesting and whatnot but... I mean, you had your chance to have your voice heard. Yesterday. Voting in the election. Yeah, sure, you didn't get the result you wanted, but nearly 47% of eligible voters didn't vote and I can't help but to question how many of these protestors are included in that 47%.

Both Barack and the Hilldog spoke about unity and working together after the results. And yeah, there are plenty of reasons why being upset about a Trump win is justified. But protesting after the fact I think is just stupid. If you weren't happy with the result, you should have participated earlier and worked a lot harder to prevent it.

Well Hillary won the popular vote, so that counts for something right?....RIGHT?!

It's a stark reminder that some people's votes count more than others.

    So yea, that's.....something.

If people can't be bothered to go out and vote I really doubt they're the kind to go out and protest.

    This.

I am more curious how many voted third party, though. But I think it is safe to say most, if not all, protesting did vote.

Question for people who are more knowledgeable about this than me:

I am currently employed full-time and getting my health insurance through my employer. I am hoping to leave my job and become self-employed sometime next year. I'm concerned now, because I have a pretty rough medical condition that requires some pretty expensive meds (about 1k a month) and I was planning to get my insurance through the marketplace once I left my job. With the new republican congress/POTUS, how screwed am I? Like, really, what happens if the ACA gets repealed and insurance suddenly doesn't need to cover pre-existing conditions, again? Do I just never get to be self-employed unless I want to take out a small loan to pay for my meds? I was on my parents insurance before the ACA took effect, so I don't have any idea how this works.

Honestly the answer is that's a great question and no one knows. I think even Trump said pre-existing conditions aren't coming back. But I wouldn't put it past them to be dumb enough to try and repeal it without having something to replace it.

I believe that they won't be able to repeal it without 60 votes? to prevent a filibuster. Any big legislation, no matter the subject, takes months if not years to come together. We'll really want to see what happens in 2018 during midterm elections.

The latest would be until the new budget happens. But that's assuming they don't kill the ACA before hand.

Really, the big thing I'd worry about is whether or not companies will be forced to accept pre-existing conditions. I'm about to get out of the Navy so I'm in the same kind of situation.

But at least I can buy Tricare for 2 years.

If it's good insurance that pays about 80% of the bills(with your co-payment being reasonable).. stick with your job for a bit and wait and see. Unless going self-employed is an opportunity that can't be missed.

Also if you can use any doctor with your insurance. Some of them want specific kinds..
