There are no guarantees that people will be "woken up" no matter how fucking terrible Trump's first term is.
This is why it's not the population that needs to shape up, but the DNC. They have to make sure to have a better outreach to make people come out. Clearly "TRUMP IS FUCKING TERRIBLE" was not a good enough reason.

It is not going to be hard for the federal government to make life very uncomfortable for homosexuals, trans people, and women in this country without overturning Roe v. Wade or the marriage equality decision.

They can make abortion basically so hard to get (even more so than now) that it is nearly impossible for the majority of the country. They can take measures that make it very difficult for women to get good reproductive health care and contraception.

These are not outside the realm of possibility.
My major concern is what you just cited. I really worry about how/if Trump is going to set back the LGBT community. My views on abortion have changed since we had our son. I believe it should only be available to families where the mother's life is in danger or the pregnancy is a result of rape or incest. But it's not my body. I recognize that the government shouldn't be making the call on a monumentally personal decision in a woman's life. That being said it should also not be used as a form of birth control.

Quicklet you sound like you can't wait for someone to get hurt just so you can be right. Should be happy with how liberal the elected GOP actually is. You ever see one on stage with a rainbow flag and have all those conservatives cheer before? He used to be a democrat even. There is good to be seen here but you refuse completely, I can't help you.

But it's not like the president is making laws. The popular vote is good enough for congress who makes these laws why isn't the popular vote good enough for the president who signs them in. Every election is governed by popular vote or by reaching a clear majority, except the presidency.

Maybe somebody can come in here and tell me why we should keep it around.

The amount of times that it is used as a form of birth control are statistically insignificant. That is the equivalent of fucking over huge groups of voters to prevent fraud that doesn't actually happen.

I also fear for the environment which cannot recover easily after a president leaves office. Trump is an ardent climate change denier and is going to surround himself with the same type of people who are anti science and pro business. We can't easily un-drill Alaska or remove oil pipelines that shouldn't be built in the first place.

because in Wyoming there are 143,000 people for each electoral college vote whereas in California each electoral college vote represents 500,000 people, creating an inherent and intractable unfairness in regards to the power of each individual's vote, even disregarding the already disproportionate power of swing states. moreover partisan states like California and Texas and New York depress the voter turnout of the opposition ideology, effectively disenfranchising millions of individuals every presidential cycle.

the system of governance is already deeply skewed in favor of low population states in congressional representation. asking for the majority to no longer be ignored in regards to the executive branch and for a sane and egalitarian system of representation is not so demanding.

Hold more sway relative to their population. California has more people per EC vote than any other state.

Right so doesn't that re-affirm the belief that we would be governed by the people of TX, CA, and FL? I guess I need to see a better proposed system that represents the states.

We all want to believe that these things won't happen because there is some magical power in this country that will ensure they don't -- but it's not true. Bad things can and do happen in history, and normalizing or denying them is complicity to those who are the subjects of cruelty and oppression. You will probably laugh at this assessment, but please realize that he is who you were told he is.
At no point have I dismissed them. I have simply stated that the reactions that are occurring right now are presumptive and unjustified at this point in time. Protest when he actually tries to pull something outlandish off. Your stance is your stance. You're so sure he's going to do these things and people will be hurt based on campaign rhetoric.

People have already gotten hurt, or do they not count?

The people he is surrounding himself with are very anti-LGBT. His Vice President is incredibly anti-LGBT. There is no good to be seen here until he proves it. Holding up a flag is meaningless when his supporters are terrorizing people.

If it makes you feel any better pretend like everyone lives perfectly distributed across the US. Perfect population density. Then make it the popular vote. It doesn't really matter that certain people tend to gravitate to one area or another their beliefs are still their beliefs so no it isn't TX, CA, and FL that would be governing the country it would be the people.

Faithless voting is actually illegal (though rarely enforced or even done) in most states last time I checked. Forget about your entire party which is no in control of congress throwing you under every bus they could find

Brill, I hope your son knocks up an obese troglodyte just so we can see where your opinion on the matter truly stands.

Edit: I should really start quoting more in the faster threads.
