Walker, 25, said the alleged shooter uttered something disrespectful to her as she went back into the bar, angering Mormon, 32, who confronted the man and began arguing with him. Walker said Mormon jokingly told the man he voted for Trump.

The argument continued and the alleged shooter — identified by Walker as a Hispanic man wearing a white coat — went around a corner, came back with a gun and opened fire.

Walker told the station she doesn’t think Mormon’s Trump comment played a role in the shooting, claiming that the gunman was determined to cause trouble from the outset. Still, she is pleading for help to get the suspect off the street.

Correct my ignorance, but don't those mail in ballots simply get counted as "popular vote" and apparently not really mean anything? Honestly asking since this whole EC/popular vote thing still slightly confuses me.

I can't speak for other states, but here in CA, the election results you see for the state on election night (or the next morning anyway), aren't legally binding.

What happens is the state spends a month counting all the last minute vote-by-mail ballots, and investigating the provisional ballots. Then in December, they release the "Certified Voting Results". THOSE are the legally binding counts that matter.

But waiting til December doesn't make good news. Also, historically, the volume of VBM and provisional rarely fit inside the difference between vote counts on propositions and candidates, so while they're counted, by the hard numbers they rarely change the the November results. It would need to be a VERY close race.

To be fair, it's always been acknowledged that mail voting has much more potential for fraud or other issues than in person voting. However anti-fraud efforts by Republicans almost always center on voter ID laws for in-person voting, which is definitively not an issue.

Guess what income levels and demographics are more likely to vote by mail vs. vote in person?
