Clinton is close to two million popular votes ahead of Trump and in come states, lost by the equivalent of a drop in the bucket.

I think it really highlights the problem with the college. You only need to convince certain states to vote for you, even if the majority of voters don't.

Interesting historical tidbit. The last time someone lost the electoral college while still winning the popular vote by this % was 1876, shortly after the civil war (when the country was south=demo and north=repub).

There were 20 decisive EC votes disputed until the compromise of 1877, which gave the Republican the presidency in exchange for pulling troops out of the south and ending the Reconstruction (and thus allowing democrats to do things like implement Jim Crow laws.) The loser of the EC (Tilden) that time had 3% more votes, but thanks to the smaller electorate that was only 250k votes.

In terms of raw vote numbers Hillary probably has the largest popular vote victory for an EC loser of all time.

The biggest thing a count would accomplish would be to further delegitimize Trump's win. Basically a few left groups are rallying to try to disrupt in whatever way they can because of the huge discrepancy the popular vote had vs electoral college.

In a way I hope the left and democrats keep the unanswered call up. Republicans have been crying foul about a stolen election for months and now they're telling me california and newyork shouldn't count. They can go fuck themselves.

Lack of dignity is something a number of Republicans have displayed and they've been rewarded for it. That said, Hillary already conceded and she probably doesn't want to seem hypocritical after chastising Trump about the importance of a peaceful transfer of power.
