Since you don't need ID if registered in NJ anyone can walk in before you if they know your name and falsify your vote.

It's extremely easy especially if you go right when polls open.

Of course, this is the argument for voter ID that always get passed around. Without ID it is actually easy to do assuming you know a person's name and polling place.

The problem is that to falsify a significant amount of votes requires going to many voting places and doing this repeatedly. That's a losing proposition because if you're doing this enough to matter eventually there will be person one who already came before you when you try to go falsify their vote and you're gonna be in a lot of hurt. And there will be an investigation, so a ring of people that has enough people to rack up significant votes doing this will eventually go down together.

What IS actually easy to falsify en masse is voting by mail. However voter ID laws never focus on this, partially because mail voting is at least split if not tilting red in some important states compared to how those disenfranchised by a lack of ID are reliably blue.

Michigan made the official announcement today that they are done counting votes and their 16 EC votes will go to Trump. No big surprise there but it is official now. Trump won the state by 10,704 votes.

Possibly send all ballots with a registration number and numerical security code linked to the sheet and on voting day/a couple days before you can call in to activate/confirm your mailed in vote(s). If something's off, you could modify it through the phone system. However, in the event of something like a recount, those particular edits would be flagged to get checked first.

If that's too much for some, they could still do it the old fashioned way. Just kinda presuming if one does have a mailing address, they've got access to a phone, even if a neighbor's.

I mentioned earlier in (I think) this thread that mailing ballots to voters to hand in at polling places seems to be the best compromise.

Walk in, give name, hand ballot, walk out.

Simply having people mailed their ballots would do a lot to simply get people to vote I think, aside from the advantage of extremely short lines at polling places because the whole thing is done in like 15 seconds.

It doesn't quite solve the issue of insufficient numbers of polling places in terms of travel but at least it's quick once you're there.

When I vote in California, the lines aren't because the booths are full, it's because the process at the table of signing in is too slow. Handing over a ballot after signing in wouldn't help lines in that case, although in other places they may well have different bottlenecks.

Hard to tell with fake news stories and whatnot (I'm being half serious here), but apparently Jill Stein actually missed the deadline to call for a recount in PA, which was a week ago.

Looks like PA's recount procedures are more convoluted, but I see nothing about missing a state-wide deadline. Just that some counties had already certified.
