It's the people who don't watch or read any news, and don't pay any attention until the last week or from snippets they hear from other people in the workplace.

There's also the issue that you're expecting the entire population to use sane, logical, reasoning to decide who they're voting for. The core of each party will vote for them no matter what, it doesn't matter how much data comes out that their candidate is bad. There's a chunk gone right there. There's also the half of the population that's dumber than average. The amount of voters that actually look into candidates and objectively decide who to vote for are a very small, small minority.
