Wireless router signal messing up wireless keyboard/mouse

    Greetings,

Now that I know what's happening, I am wondering if there is a simple way around this (other than moving my router).

I have an Asus wireless router and it sits basically right next to my keyboard. It used to sit next to my wife's but I moved it for another unrelated reason. She used to have random problems with her mouse and keyboard lagging out and not responding. Now that the router is near me, I have problems and she doesn't.

Is there perhaps some setting in my router than I can alter so the frequencies or waves or whatever dont collide with my wireless keyboard/mouse? (usb). If the only option I have is to move the router again I guess I will do so, but it's going to be a pain.

    Thanks for the tips.

Nope, most likely it's just a signal strength issue. Only real fix is to move the router away from the keyboard/mouse.

Wireless kb/m and routers shouldn't really be at odds. Worst I've seen was usb 3.0 issues with my router. What kind of kb/m transmitter is it?

Is there no way for you to avoid such an odd situation that your router is sitting inches from you instead of being elsewhere (like with your modem, or is your pc sharing its connection or something else wired and long lan cables for this sucks)? Or would it be easier to try something weird, like using a usb extension cable to put the transmitter for the kb/m away from the router (so its line of sight doesn't have the router in between transmitter and device)?

Hm, thanks for the info. I do have a long LAN cable in case I move my router. However to really move it out of the office (and closer to the center of the house, part of the reason for this initial move), I would have to drill a hole in the wall. I just wanted to avoid that but perhaps it would be for the best in all cases. I am sadly limited to placement in the actual office for the device. I'll look into it.

Wireless shit always conflict with 2.4ghz routers.

I once had a similar issue and made things less painful by disabling 2.4ghz on the router and only allowed 5ghz. But things might be complicated if the other stuff connected to the wifi don't support 5ghz.

Good ol 2.4 huh... well I would love to turn that off but I was surprised how many gadgets we have that still connect to that freq. Ah well.

One thing you could try would be to force your router to use a different channel in the 2.4GHz range. Dunno if wireless accessories can use the whole 2.4 range or just a part of it, but maybe you can reduce the interference that way.
Or, depending on your home layout and where router/wlan clients are positioned, you could reduce/eliminate the interference by placing a metal plate between the router and your PC/mouse/kb. That would shield most of the wifi radiation.
