i just don't like when people expect me to respect their fake restrictions on food.

i cook for my dad's buddies and they all have horrible restrictions because of cholesterol problems and shit but i make that shit sing anyway because i'm awesome and they appreciate it

This is silly. Yes, you are the product, however it's fair for people to deem the methods/what is done with their data as being really shitty.

1. Collect a bunch of data belonging to people on your service. Collect money from business x then show people like x ads for x. Ethical.
2. Collect a bunch of data belonging to people on your service. Sell that data to business x. Unethical.

A big point of ethical issues is informed consent. People are simply unaware and they should be made aware. Also, yes, you are responsible for knowing and choosing what kind of personal data you want to give away, but it doesn't make it less shitty if someone you gave the data to abuses that data. If I leave my car running and the door wide open, I'm a dumb fuck, but the person that stole my car is still a fucking thief and should get prosecuted for theft.

My mother in law started the gluten free thing a year or so ago because she decided she must be allergic since she feels better when she doesn't eat gluten stuff. It's probably because she was eating too much bread and shit. Now whenever my wife and I try to take her out for dinner she confronts the wait staff about being gluten free. Yeah, we get it, a lot of people are. That's why the menus are marked 99% of the time and my wife and I look for places we can take you. Cut that shit out, it's annoying and unnecessary to declare it to everyone.

It's a mixed bag. My GF's cousins have 2 girls with celiac's and the mom has it too. They love the options but hate the attitude they now have to deal with because other people are douchers about it.

I don't think there's anything wrong with deciding you no longer want to consume something as long as you're not a fucking asshole. That said, if a place doesn't make gluten free shit, deal with it and find somewhere else that does.
