Seeing a black man elected president completely traumatized the racists to the point of financially/idealistically aligning with Russia to "win" 2016. They are terrified of the demographics changing and the electorate rejecting their fascist ideas. Texas turning blue would also make them completely lose their fucking shit as a sign of their end.

There is no way a lot of the more hardcore right wing folks outside of Texas accept Texas going blue. A blue Texas would be proof in itself that the Dems are stealing elections cause there is a perception that Texas should be infallibly red.

I’ll tell you at least what I’ve seen for the last decade with my circle of friends I went to college with. They lean left when it comes to social policies like LGBTQ+ rights, racial equality, anti-war etc…at least out loud. They lean heavily right when it comes to economic policies and taxes and shit. And ultimately? They are mostly straight white folks who are financially stable. So they have no qualms voting for their economic interests vs social issues because in their mind (again as straight white people) they say “Well (name of batshit Republican) may be racist/sexist/homophobic but I know that I’m not!”
