Sounds like Turkey doesn't want to be part of NATO anymore.
First, this is the reason;

and the how;Sweden and Finland have not granted approval for the repatriation of 33 people that Turkey requested for alleged links to groups it deems terrorists, state media said on Monday, after Ankara opposed the two countries joining NATO.
Turkey says the people sought had links to Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) militants or Muslim cleric Fethullan Gulen, whom Ankara accuses of orchestrating a 2016 coup attempt.

Aspiring NATO bids require unanimous approval from existing members to join the alliance.
Ah, well. So much for that then.
Turkey ain't blocking shit. Erdogan is an opportunistic amoral cunt and as is his nature he sees he has been dealt pocket cowboys. will demand the Euros ease up on support for any Kurdish elements in the region, more weapons sales, U.S. funds, finally getting his paws on some F-16s, whatever he can get in return for supporting the Nordics' bid.
Kick Turkey out, obtain Sweden/Finland
What he's gonna get is a big bowl of shut the hell up, with a side order of "you will get some concessions later if you don't fuck around".
it took north macedonia almost 3 years to be allowed to join nato. this process takes forever
it will be expedited for obvious reasons, but yes all 30 extant NATO members must OK the petition in their respective legislatures (29 have signaled they intend to do so with haste). it is not an alacritous process, even optimistic foreign policy observors say it would be fortuanate to happen within a single year.
it will be a vulnerable period for both nations but they should be safe enough. the UK, of all nations, signed bilateral defense agreements with Sweden and Finland pledging to fight with them should they come under attack. neither Germany nor Amerioca have signed such a formal pledge to protect but both nations have made noises, public and private, that they would go to war over further aggression against either Finland or Sweden. in essense Russia can no longer dismember its northern neighbors with impunity without starting a war with the West, NATO admission will merely formalize it.
guaranteed the nos come from nations that want to be bought with new shiny toys and tech
It'd be weird for other nations to be voting in the Finnish parliament![]()
No clue how you could watch what is happening with U and R and think your country shouldn't join NATO asap.
One of my employees is Finnish (triple citizenship, but Finland is more so his “home,”) and just came back from military service to the states 6 months ago.
He’s equal parts excited and nervous. Yay for joining NATO but there’s the obvious concern this will provoke Russia into attacking ASAP.
It was pretty sobering talking to him. His family is here but he still has a ton of very close friends in the military. He’s debating on returning if shit hits the fan.

Russia would be apocalypticly stupid to start a new war with Finland right now. Not only do they completely have their hands full with Ukraine, but given that the UK just signed a defensive treaty with them and the state of the west right now as is, they would very quickly be in WW3. Even Putin isn't that stupid, and even if he is, his generals would kill him before he could.
If Putin attacks Finland, having his family in the US would not save them from the very literal end of the world.
We've already seen a false flag in Moldava and tensions are rising in Germany (and I'm sure other Euro countries with a decent Russian pop), so it's not that far fetched to see something starting, at least on a small scale. I would expect cyber terrorism would precede any sort of an invasion (like what happened for years in Ukraine).
the fear is understandable but it's pretty far fetched, Russia would be starting a war it could not hope to win and risking the total destruction of their country. wouldn't be surprised if Putin did get coup'd if he tried it.
