i've had this debate a few times in the context of non-Nazi German soldiers and their culpability re the crimes of the regime for which they fought. obviously that degree of evil was an order of magnitude more severe than what the Russians are doing, but what the Russians are doing is evil, without equivocation. does the individual abdicate all ethical responsibility when they find themselves in the employ of a tyrant? does personal self-interest supersede all considerations of ethics towards your fellow man? at what point does resistance rather than acquiescence become a moral imperative?

You say this as if the vast majority of the Russian military hasn't been regularly and dutifully been committing genocide for 3 fucking months. As if this soldier was an isolated incident, and not a pattern more prevalent than not.
