i will say empathy ought be used more liberally, as you say unless one is in the same circumstances one can only suspect what they might do and it's easy to be righteous in an armchair (though there's a lot of groundless conjecture stretching the price of said morality going around here, such as Russian families being punished for their family members deserting - a claim with absolutely zero evidence that is being reguritated over and over).

but also throwing up one's hands and saying there ought be no judgement, there ought be no universal value system applied to situations in which one is not actively participating in is one of the most myopic and cowardly intellectual stances a person can take. yes there is evil in this world but unless you are either victim or participant you are not allowed to hold an opinion on it? shameful.
