There's a difference between not wanting to visually watch people die, and AG's correct assessment that their deaths are a good thing in a vacuum (as soldiers fighting for the wrong side of a war)

And I for one will say that all Russian soldiers are morally culpable for complicity by following morally bankrupt orders. I can't say that I would have the moral fortitude to desert in such a situation, but we are judged by the choices we make of those in front of us. There is no ethical curve for how unlucky we were in the choices presented to us.

Plenty of people in history would have been morally culpable for complicity had they lived in Germany during the Third Reich by fighting for Germany, or failing to hide or assist Jews, or something else. We should count ourselves lucky to have not lived in such times and locations.

you come in throwing a fit cause a couple of us showed empathy to russian soilders families or their mindset, strawmanning about people saying there should be no judgement etc and seemed to be annoyed forte was getting rightfully teased for his psychopathy instead of saying rape is bad or whatever. i found all of that to be annoying

I don't take pleasure in seeing it happen when there's no way of knowing who's fighting out of necessity or blood thirst, and I see nothing wrong with that. I feel for the soldiers that go out of desperation because they gave their lives for nothing.

but let me ask you directly Kran, you are an armed forces type (of sorts [eyyooooooo]), and while it's obviously impossible to say definitively without being in the situation, if the United States waged such an expansionary war of aggression and you were witness to such ubiquitous war crimes do you think you'd have a moral responsibility to oppose them / not actively support them?

I'd add that it's worth noting that the US military has explicit rules and laws pertaining to protection/no retaliation for refusing unlawful orders. And while I am far too lazy to check, I would wager the Russian military does not contain the same kinds of checks and balances.
