But so much of what is happening right now is because Putin/Russia are desperate for more money/resources. Their country is dwindling under his kleptocracy as oil is their main source of income and the rest of Earth is moving toward more renewables. They are a majority white, religious, hetero-normative country that refuses to be dragged into modernity and he is bitter about the US breaking up the USSR. Same thing in the US you have a Republican party dwindling in relevance when a black (!) president is elected by a wide popular margin. Republicans are terrified and see the death of their party as whites are destined to become a minority.

Russia wants money and foreign influence to favor them, the Republican party wants power to extend their party's lifeline and they both want to maintain white Christianity and oil production. Here we are with social media that is massively weaponized by Russian trolls on all platforms, Fox "News" and OANN echoing RT propaganda, and Senators spending their 4th of July in Moscow.

Now however the Putin president is out of the white house and Biden is actually bringing consequences to Russian influence in the US so Putin lashes out. His operations were flourishing under Trump, now not as much so it's time for him to rattle the sabers and assert his alpha-male insecurities. To top that all off Russia has been getting it's shit rocked by the pandemic and their ineffective non-RNA vaccine.
