They have released a statement with a bit more edge to it following that press statement. Some other news, in general more eastern European countries are making preparations for a war, Senate Republicans and of course Glenn Greenwald extend the Russian Orwellian propaganda that criticizing war mongering Russian aggression is AKTUALLY the REAL war mongering. They say Russia has a right to be concerned about its neighboring countries so don't dissent. Former Ukraine president's court process continues (feels familiar). Bottom tweet is an interesting thread summarizing Russia's thought process from a Russian political scientist.

well it's good to see the Deep State can still prop up Joe's corpse to bark a little, but far too little, far too late. to be fair no amount of diplomatic posturing may have deterred the Russian state given its autocratic decision-making processes and Putin's personality, but given we've had months of warning of this there absolutely should have been an increased military presence in the region coupled with the explicit threat of economic sanctions and even the threat to start shooting over maintaining Kiev's independence.

and yeah the non-NATO former Soviet satellites have to be terrified. this is the third former Republic Russia has brutalized through force of arms (deferring for the moment the yoke with which it has shackled clients states such as Belarus and Kyrgyzstan) and Western response has been minimal. Denmark and Estonia will be fine, NATO Article V, but everyone in the East not actively under its umbrella are rightfully shitting themselves. their capacity to defend themselves against the Russian military is next to non-existent, and they are at the caprices of an indecisive, disinterested United States and whatever Putin's current calculations are re imperial overreach.

the political scientist is spot on in every read. the current leaders of Russia are all former Soviet party members that saw its collapse as a geopolitical disaster of the first order, and their raison d'etre is to reverse as much of it as possible in reestablishing global Russian influence (a la Syria) and regional Russian hegemony. it has been their playbook from day 1 of Putin's soft revolution, and the appeasement attempted by Bush, Obama, and Trump has only engendered increasing belligerence and bloodshed.

Sadly I know plenty of Russians falling for his propaganda bullshit in the same way Americans fell for Trump.

the last time i was in Europe i talked to a Russian girl for a while, university educated, fluent in multiple languages, working for an international non-profit, whole shebang, but the conversation took a disastrous turn when she started parroting Putin propaganda and lost all capacity for critical thinking justifying the 2014 invasion of Ukraine. the cult of personality around him is an order of magnitude stronger than what has existed in America for Trump, though as you say there are similarities. it is not merely a small minority but seemingly the vast majority of the Russian population that has earnestly embraced his destruction of their democracy and warmongering.

sad to see a great people get hollowed out from the inside.

To be fair an attack from Russia is probably imminent. From everything I've read they've turned Crimea into such a shit show that it's no longer economically viable to maintain a military presence, thus the escalation of force to save face.

Who cares? It's a real threat, if they were stirring up nonsense shit like the Havana Syndrome or something then yeah, call it into question on who's publishing it. But if they are calling an apple an apple then I don't care.

If it was only Booze Allen and Lockheed making tons of articles about "The Russia threat!" and everyone else with any knowledge were like "uhhh no?" then I'd point out they are obviously warmongering. Pointing out now "Oh but it's a Lockheed Article" doesn't matter, their point is correct. Does it make it incorrect because it's coming from them? These places post crap all the time, 90% of it is bullshit garbage but sometimes it's not. Yeah they stand to benefit if we get dragged into a war, obviously, but also doesn't mean we just ignore it and let Russia stomp around.

Let's ignore the threat of COVID because an article was posted by Pfizer.

who said anything about ignoring it or that even the article was incorrect, the point is we have weapons manufacturers sponsoring foriegn policy articles in major "trustworthy" publications. if youre cool with that ok, im not. no need to argue shit no one said

also some things you dont know are true/false until later, like iraq for example.

further if i did see a covid article sponsored by pfizer i would indeed be a lot less likely to trust the contents, just common sense really
