The thing I was thinking about, and that truly makes me nervous, is what if Ukraine holds out and inflicts heavy losses on Russia to the point that its considered a loss. And the Putin cant look weak/as a loser, decides to launch a nuke at Kyiv

lets say they truly did lose and it got to the point of putin going full on nuclear mad, would the kremlin even allow themselves to go down with his ship or would they assassinate him to save face with the rest of the world. you'd assume the latter just because it would be so easy to shift the blame on a dead guy and go back to somewhat normal affairs after being total assholes

If Putin was the only finger on that nuke I could see the little manlet going nuclear to save face and pretend he won, but like Rhyis said, not sure everyone else is willing to go down with that ship, and hopefully he’d just be offed before then cause I doubt every rich or well-to-do Russian in his inner circle wants to watch everything they worked for fizzle into dust because Putins viagra doesn’t work anymore.

Right now they’re gambling on long term resources from an easy victory making up for the “sanctions” they’re getting and the fall back of blaming ol Putang if shit goes tits up, but if you go nuclear you ain’t coming back.

Foreign policy experts smarter than are pointing out this obvious conclusion, but I'm really just nervous and baffled with where this is all headed. Even if Putin unrealistically just like said "okay I give up" and withdrew all troops, so then what? Putin's reputation and Russia will be blighted for a long time. Things can't just go back to pretending in a year or two. This is the best possible opportunity for the world to get rid of Putin and at least nullify a lot of the evil shit being exported from Russia. Would be a nice outcome but the reality will probably be a lot more messy and unsatisfying than that.

The world can absolutely go back to pretending and is historically pretty good at that.

the more i read about swift it sounds more like losing it would only be a small nuisance more than actually hindering any future transactions since it's only a communications platform for banks, not an actual financial payment system itself. russia can still just phone/email/etc their bank-to-bank transactions no problem. they just can't have them be automated with full security anymore.
