putin started his career by turning the capital of chechnya into what was considered the most destroyed city on earth, with thousands of civilians bombed into dust... and thats just 1 russian example. we're all old enough to have seen way worse

Chechnya is part of Russia though, so that was an internal matter. This is the closest analogue but wasn't at the same scale.

I mean I distinctly remember the first Iraq war. Watching missile barrages go out from ships. This is far more televised and on a much more intimate scale but if you were born in the early '80's or earlier you have definitely seen full scale war and invasions before. Really the biggest difference is the level of recording happening from every angle.
